Having not flown my E-170/175 for a while, I decided to give it some love earlier this week… and experienced a noticeable drop in performance compared to when I last flew it. The only difference is a new Sim Update. Terrible fps compared to other, higher fidelity jets such as the 146, Fenix and PMDG 737. I turned the cabin off but, unlike before, it made absolutely zero difference. I was actually using a new, highly detailed livery set — thinking it could be that I reverted to some of the liveries included in the base package, but the issue persisted.
This aircraft was pretty heavy on performance anyway but it’s now really irritating to fly with the increased performance hit.
If anyone owns either E-Jet package, I urge you to check them out post-SU15, to see if you have similar problems. Even flying over default terrain, miles from any complex airport, it still suffers.
I believe the issue is the avionics having been done in Java rather than WASM. FSS have stated that they plan to make the change but whether this is actually the cause of the poor fps, I don’t know.
I bought it after SU15 was released, so can’t comment on any change. It does seem a little choppy sometimes, I will say that.
I read a comment on their Discord suggesting you turn down the FO side PFD and MFD brightness, as it might save on performance a little. Whether that makes a huge difference I don’t know, but worth a try.
Thanks for that. I’m running practically a top-spec PC so it’s a bit concerning — at this point, anything’s worth a try! It’s definitely worse after SU15. I can’t think of anything else that could have reduced the fps. Everything else I fly is fine.
A shame the E-Jet series is lumbered with problems as the flight model is beautiful and handles well. I really hope they fix it but I get the feeling their somewhat inexperienced team considers it an almost insurmountable task. They’re aware of the problem but as yet have been unable to fix it.
The other flaws I can live with — but being such a framerate killer really dents my confidence in it. I want to add the E-190/195 but I’m told it’s even heavier on resources!
I genuinely believe it will turn out ok, if not great, eventually. I’ve been holding off buying it for a long time, because of the early access nature especially. But seeing a bunch of videos on it recently and seeing the actual and tangible progress being made, it boosted my confidence in it - so I pulled the trigger.
It has many issues for sure! But I enjoy it regardless, I wish them every success getting it over the finish line.
As a side note, another thing that pushed me over the line was their Tecnam P2012, that’s really quite good. Same studio, although maybe different team perhaps. But still!
I plan on getting the P2012 when it goes on sale. Same team, I believe — the physical E-Jet models are actually someone else’s (I forge whose), licensed to FSS, so perhaps that’s part of the problem?
I’ve read about people making a big deal out of that fact, that FSS purchased their model from XCrafts - but honestly, I don’t really care. Same way I don’t care that my car maker purchases their tires from Michelin.
Whether it contributes to performance issues, I can’t say - past experiences with various aircraft more often point to the actual coding of the various instruments and logic rather than 3D models themselves causing issues. We’ll see - I’m sure some (a lot?) of optimisation still needs to take place.
I have the E190/195 only (not the 170/175) and have not noticed any real bad perf issues (5950/3090). I occasionally see some FPS loss usually taxiing at a busy AI traffic airport in the E190, but I generally turn off the FO MFD/PFD and get a bit of performance back. It’s honestly been a lot of fun to fly and like I say it’s way less FPS crippler than say the Ini A320 V2 which even loses another 10FPS on a managed descent after it’s last update.
Thanks. Perhaps the key is to turn off those systems. I already hide the cabin and that used to improve performance by about 4-5fps. Doesn’t make a difference now, though. For me the Ini 32N is better.
I think it still needs much optimisation; it’s way too demanding on hardware as it is.
I think they have already said that it is yet to be optimised. I have the cabin interior turned on and I’ve not seen any issues. Takeoffs and landings generally quite smooth for me, but like I say I do turn those two displays down which they do recommend. Something about each display being individaully controlled so adding to CPU or something like that.
This is weird, as I see the opposite. Maybe it s a DX11/DX12 thing. FWIW I’m using DX11.
Out of curiosity I tried DX12 after SU15 launch and decided it was still to flakey perf wise & stuttery at times so switched back to DX11 and have been fine ever since.
I remember when DX12 was great. It was around SU10 or something like that, also same time DLSS was released. The combination of DLSS + DX12 in SU10 was sublime and has not been matched again since (for me).
I usually go by testing any new airliner (or sim update) at FlyTampa’s EHAM which is already quite resource intensive. I fly in there a lot and hate having perf issues on final so usually observe any new airliner there on the ground with AI traffic on.
I’m sure it was there that I saw more acceptable DX11 perf. Sadly it’s been that way for months now with DX12, and I’ve no idea why. I’m using fairly up to date NVidia drivers too, just not the latest one though.
A quite opposite experience here. With the latest E-Jets update as they continue in converting the instruments from java to wasm I am quite happy with its performance. It was worse before, sometimes even in the slideshow territory. And also turning off the co-pilot’s displays helps a bit. But yes, it still needs some more optimization. I even think the optimization work is now more important than programming the VNAV.
This is the bizarre nature of the sim: that each of us can have totally different and quite unique experiences using the same software and similar hardware. I used to fly the E70/75 daily and, while it was never the best optimised airliner, it wasn’t a slideshow. Fast-forward to SU15 and the latest dev update, and the performance is very noticeably degraded. BragRaindrop’s advice about turning off unused screens has really helped — I wish I’d known about that a few weeks ago, when performance was better.
A few comments I’ve seen now that say it’s not as bad as Ini’s new 32N but I’m finding that far better behaved. In fact, I’ve not noticed any fps reduction when using it.
The new Taboo mod by //42 looks interesting. Its naming suggests it might not be entirely agreeable with MS so it will be interesting to see whether it gets MP approval. I’d also like to know if there’s any benefit to it when using exterior views or the drone. The E-Jet is certainly just as bad when outside the cockpit.
Yes, it’s weird that people have completely different experiences. Ini A320neo works fine on my system too, though. It’s a shame it doesn’t behave on your system because despite the missing VNAV and the only slightly customized Asobo’s LNAV it’s a great airplane with its own charm. Landing at EGLC with the steep approach feature (modelled in 190/195) always feels special.
Have you also tried to play with those display refresh rates in the EFB? But I guess you have. I’m thinking about getting the Taboo utility but still I’m hesitating as I’m not sure if it’s not a waste of money.
Must’ve missed those! Are they on the same screen as the ‘hide cabin’ feature? I’ll have to investigate…
It’s only £7. That said, it’s possibly a bit gimmicky and I’m not particularly keen on the idea of having integral parts of the sim disabled by a third-party mod. If it demonstrably and significantly boosts fps, maybe… but otherwise…
