I found an old post where people identified Finishing Move Inc. as the creators of the Flight Simulator music.
Now my question is would it be possible to get all the tracks used in menus, Discovery Flights, and trailers from World Updates, Local Legends and Famous Flyers (plus Top Gun) in one package? Official downloads from either Microsoft or Asobo?
The cues used both in this game and its official announcements are the epitome of awe-inspiring music, and I can’t be the only one who would enjoy having them as an official release of some sort.
I think it would be unlikely to get the Top Gun music in the same package, as that would involve some probably messy license wrangling with the current publisher/distributor, Interscope Records; I believe basically the same question was asked shortly after the Top Gun DLC/GOTY edition went live, and one of the community managers looked into it and came back with the answer that they couldn’t.
Fortunately, as far as I can tell, almost all of the music used in the Top Gun activities is from the Top Gun Maverick original score, which is available for purchase/download; for example, the Top Gun menu music is basically the “Top Gun Anthem” track playing in a loop, and the Darkstar mission plays clips from a lot of the different tracks in the album. (You can listen to the tracks on Interscope’s YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJzLTReoSNQTCCJ3f9o4IFyEWB8HyIiJa )

Yeah, I guess that’s why I put that one in brackets. I know the tracks that come directly from the movie soundtrack, but there’s additional variations that are unique to the MSFS DLC. I believe the music that plays as you fly on the levels themselves is custom made, since that needs to be tailored to adapt to the way you’re flying.
Indeed a bit of a complicated licensing thing, and the main goal would be to isolate the MSFS specific compositions, but hey. Why not.
I hope they will at least release the trailer scores for the local legends and the latest world updates on youtube. Because the current playlist hasn’t been updated in a while.
Hopefully they will release it as a soundtrack in the future. But I’m also happy if they upload the missing scores on youtube.
