As I am new to VR and didn’t follow VR related devolpment at all, I was wondering what the plan is regarding future VR related improvements.
I have somewhere read that there is a DLSS update in the making which will make display instruments readable again. Will this be in SU10 or later?
Is there anything else planned like performance/visual updates?
Unfortunately, Asobo aren’t particularly forthcoming with planned VR updates.
In my experience, SU10 brings some increased performance (using the beta) which is always welcome, but apart from what is listed in the Wishlist, I’m unaware of any published plans for other VR-specific improvements.
Personally, I’d love them to improve the VR controller implementation, so I’m not forced to use the pesky mouse, but it seems like their resource is focused in other areas at the moment (namely, improving the DX12 implementation, catching CTDs and optimising performance)
Of course, this benefits a large proportion of the user base (VR and non-VR) so it’s understandable why they choose these areas to concentrate on.
We need to keep voting for the VR items on the wishlist to get them looked at!
I think that, considering 90% of payware have VR ZOOM, the VR implementation isn’t bad.
Sure in Xplane you can use the VR hands to control the sick which is really awkward and I never used it, for the rest you can use switches and knobs fine, although I still find the mouse faster although probably ever so slightly less immersive.
Better default VR pop up menus (weather / ATC) would be good.
See, for me, the X-plane implementation is excellent and exactly what I would like in this sim. Their ergonomic method for yoke control works great in my opinion.
Everyone has different tastes I suppose so it’s hard to choose what to develop!
The simple fact that only one controller at a time is active is MSFS is the deal-breaker for me right now.
Yeah I gotta admit I only use my mouse too. When I got my Reverb G2 a few months back I was actually blown away by VR, however I tried to use the controllers and found it so weird that I threw them back in the box to where they shall stay
I find it so much easier to use a mouse, the only thing that needs improving with the mouse is the mouse tracking as it’s a bit hit and miss at times I find
The only way to get those improvementsis to show there is a demand for them. Looks like there haven’t been VR-related fixed and improbements in a long while… There are topics in a “wish list” section that outline all VR items…
Get Bigscreen on Steam and you can use them to throw pocorn there are some AMAZING VR games / experience on steam, or Kayak VR!
I could not get to use them in VR, it is just weird, as weird as doing “Air guitar” as you are not really holding anything, however I see why some people may actually enjoy it
VR is still the best option, the immersion beats 2d in every aspect.
The instruments are readable with dlss but a bit more blurred than with taa. Maybe that will be fixed with the upcoming updates but we will know it when we hold them in our hands.
And again, there is absolutely no reason NOT to go VR by now. I am in my 21st VR month now and just can’t imagine to have to sim without it.
Yeah I need to broaden my horizon in using my Reverb G2
I used to play Subnautica a few years back, and I’ve just found out you can play in VR!
I’m gonna download it later today and see how it is
But I definitely agree that once you have VR in your life, it’s so hard to go back. It’s hard to explain just how good it is, it’s almost like you feel like everyone else is missing out
I mean FS2020 is good in 2D, but in VR it’s phenomenal
Fully agreed! Hopefully they can dedicate a couple of people on VR, I suspect they could fix a lot of these issues pretty quickly if they did, and make it the incredible VR experience it deserves to be
A little off topic but I deal with instrument readability by reassigning the VR Focus feature to the ~ key. Since it’s on the outer edge of the keyboard it’s easy to find.
That makes it much easier to use VR focus as it takes the binding away from the mouse. But VR focus seems a bit buggy as it only functions with the mouse cursor active. So it takes a jiggle to activate or deactivate.
I also think SU10 has added some clarity. It’s hard to say but I find myself struggling less and not needing to virtually sit as close to the instrument panel.
As far as any improvements, I think the biggest thing we will see over the next year is hardware related, like 40xx series graphics cards and headsets. Unfortunately, all costly options.
