FXAA or TAA

Hi, can someone tell me the difference between using FXAA and TAA.

Regards,

Oliver.

I can, one has FX in it and the other has a T in it

Hope that helps … but on a serious note:

FXAA: Fast & Lightweight

  • Applies a blur filter to high-contrast edges after rendering.
  • Doesn’t require geometry or motion data — just the final image.
  • Pros: Minimal performance hit, easy to enable globally via driver settings.
  • Cons: Can soften the entire image, including HUD/text, and miss complex aliasing.

TAA: Smarter & Smoother

  • Uses motion vectors and previous frames to reduce shimmering and flicker.
  • Samples pixels over time, which helps with dynamic scenes.
  • Pros: Excellent at handling fine detail and motion artifacts and gives the best graphics quality at the cost of performance.
  • Cons: Can introduce ghosting or blur if not well-implemented, but this doesn’t occur in MS2024 and MS2020.

TAA is generally the best for MSFS 2024 and 2020 if you want the best quality.

Hope that helps

Thank you for the reply.

I’ve switched to FXAA and now I have a performance improvement. (reduced lag, is what I previously had)

If I have any other issues, I’ll report back.

However, I’ve switched back to TAA as it’s much more usable for me.

Yeah most people use TAA. For me though i use DLSS at balanced that works well. But i only have a 1080p monitor so i dont see a massive difference but get the performance benefit.
