G1000 autopilot circles without NAV or APR enabled

I am running Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X. I assume everything is updated to the latest version, since the console constantly indicates that it updates. I have the G1000 NXi upgrade installed.

I create a simple direct flight plan, and I add a visual GPS approach to a runway, selecting the STRAIGHT mode.

I attempt to land, disabling autopilot, MISSING THE APPROACH, and flying away from the airport.

I enable the autopilot, and I only have VS mode enabled, but now the aircraft starts to circle.

I toggle the NAV, APR modes OFF, then ON then OFF, to make sure that they are disabled, but the plane keeps flying in a circle, if autopilot is enabled, in ROL PIT mode

If I enable HDG mode, then the plane starts to follow the heading bug. When I disable heading mode, the plane starts flying in a circle again.

Finally, I disable the autopilot, in the flight plan, I select the STRAIGHT waypoint, and activate a direct route.

As I approach the glide slope of the runway, I arm APR mode and enable the autopilot, and now the autopilot does not circle, it correctly tracks the approach and glide path down to the runway threshold.

Everything you wrote sounds correct to me. In Roll/pitch mode it holds your current bank angle. If you’re not perfectly straight it’s going to continue whatever roll you currently have, it won’t level you out.

I had been initially training on the Cessna 172, and the autopilot worked for me, just as you described it: maintaining the current attitude.

I recently switched to the Kodiak. It seems to be a little different, in that, when I turn on the autopilot it seems to always auto level.

Now I’m remembering that I had a similar problem on the Cessna 172, and it was also after a missed approach with a go-around. I could not get the autopilot, in ROL and PIT mode to just maintain the current attitude.
