Is this part of the G1000 AP problem that’s gonna be fixed? I’ve asked about this on discord and some say this is not a problem planes are not supposed to use FLC to descend. But I’ve read G1000’s actual manual IRL and it says FLC is used for descent.
Also the FD jumps up and down 300ft before I reach cruising altitude. Is this part of the problem thats gonna be fixed too?
I’m using the G1000 for descent all the time and it works perfectly. Have you set the speed component? When you set the target altitude and turn on FLC you should see a target speed appear too. This is set to 0kts if it’s not at all initialised. You then can use the vs up/down buttons to change this target.
So if you are flying at say 100kts and turn on FLC then turn it on for the first time to descend then because the target speeds is 0kts it will never descend. Instead, increase the target speed, once you set it to anything over the current speed then the plane will start to descend. Alternatively, set it to the current speed and then cut throttle so the plane has to start descending to stop it falling below the target speed.
The same speed target is true when ascending. If you aren’t setting the target speed then I imagine the ascend part is working for you (albeit probably more slowly than you want) because you are setting the higher altitude either when you are still gaining speed or before pushing up the throttle. When gaining altitude set the target speed slower so that you gain faster. Refer to the Vx and Vy in the refs button at the bottom of the G1000 to see the best climb settings over distance and time.
I understand. It just doesn’t work. When I first started to play it worked for a while and then suddenly it just stoped working. What I do is set a lower alt, set air speed to much higher than my current speed, and the cut throttle, then click FLC to activate. It used to work like in the first 3 days of gameplay, after that, stopped working it only goes up not down.
There is a way to make it work. If I save a flight mid air. And reload it later, once I came in at cruising altitude, I can use it to descend. But only if I reload a flight.flt.
FLC should be used to decent as well. I want to extend my range and the only way to do that is cut throttle and use FLC to hold at glide speed. Without FLC I have to constantly adjust VS to hold at glide speed for max range. G1000 Manual says FLC is used for descent.
Ah sorry, sounds like you are doing it exactly right and it just isn’t working. It must be a bug. I just tried and it is still working for me. Other then reporting the bug all I can think is to try resetting everything to defaults but I’m not sure it’d be worth going through that hassle as it might not fix the bug.
