Hi everyone,
I can’t seem to get simple DME to work on the G1000. I set the frequency, it’s identified and I use the correct CDI. However, no matter where I look I cant find a readout of the distance.
At the time I took the screenshot I was about 2nm inbound the DME (height and course only for test purposes and offline). I use the DA-40NG with the improvement mod.
Can anyone tell me what I missed? Thanks!
To turn the DME readout on you have to go into a sub menu. PFD options if I remember correctly.
This is also a useful workaround for NDB’s to get distance to
1st
2nd
3rd
4th - DIR to button will show distance to NDB
G1000 doesn’t show distance to, only the blue needle pointer/frequency/bearing to the NDB. This is a workaround with DIR TO (see on MFD).
AFAIK NDBs don’t have DME, only most VORs.
IMHO, the MFD is showing the distance to the “waypoint” that is the NDB (via GNSS positioning).
That is what I am saying by stating it is a workaround (for any navaid)
I am also showing what is available to receive that info from a Vordme/tacan (or DME if you can find one)!
NDB’s do not give a distance reading to an aircraft. (hence the workaround)
I should have been clearer
A few do. They are called an NDB/DME. The DME portion is not on the NDB frequency though.
