Good luck to you Emilie!
I follow her too, she is entertaining. My fear is once she gets back in the cockpit though we won’t be seeing as much of her. She is also an instructor according to some her comments.
She’s always in my recommend! I’ll have to check her videos on the g1000. I just went through p gatcomb’s but he’s a bit further ahead, I was looking for something else. Thanks for this!
Gatcomb is very good as well. He does a very good job with relaying and explaining the information. As does Emilie. They don’t get so technical that us non pilot people can’t understand it.
True but I’m guessing she’d probably get back to doing her real world videos. Hope she does get to get back to it soon. Thought maybe we could get her some more viewers in the meantime.
Yep, I am with you. I saw your comment on her video. Maybe someone can hook her up with some better controls too lol. She deserves better than an X52 like I use.
They also don’t get all bent out of shape if something doesn’t quite work the same as it does in the real world.
Yes I have noticed that. The videos you see with actual pilots using the sim don’t seem to get nearly as triggered by the flaws as other people do lol. They just role with it. Especially commercial and fighter pilots.
What do you mean? Are you referring to the joystick she’s using?
Well buddy, I’m sorry but the pattern is full. iJustine and her sister get Honeycomb Alpha yoke (a $250 value), Thrustmaster Pendular Rudder Pedals (a $500 value) and logitech throttles, all for free from Microsoft, just to make a single video of them using MSFS like a video game, while a real world pilot and airlines captain like Emilie has to twist the ■■■■■■ X52 joystick sideways to control the yaw axis.
What does that tell you about Microsoft’s marketing department?
It tells me the marketing department doesn’t understand flight simulators and its community. Heck…I’d say even the community manager and discord+reddit+forum moderation team know more about flight simulation than them.
No, talking about the avionics in the game itself. She is obviously quite proficient with the G1000 but she did not complain about it not being perfect in the sim.
Well considering the number of people that are playing the game I would say Microsoft had a pretty good handle on the marketing side of it lol.
I started following her channel, as well. She is doing a great job of explaining features of FS2020 in a way that isn’t too difficult to understand. Her sense of humor helps. Makes me want to dig deeper into FS2020, as I usually just putz around flying a plane somewhere, without going through checklists etc. Was working on my private pilot’s license years ago, so Emilie’s videos are bringing back some of the excitement I had back then. Good job!
Thanks for the recommendation!
Not only them. I’m a private pilot who has flown about 20 different types, some more some less, and I hold a CPL and fly a 5.8 tons turboprop as a side job… anyway, the real flight experience and the experience with “professional” flight simulators have shown us that NO flight simulator, regardless of the appearance or intention comes even close to a real flying aircraft. Some sims come closer, some very close. A2A’s accusim for example recreates very well what the airplanes do and how they react and they use a simulator (P3D) whose own flight dynamic model seems more like a train on rails. PMDG, FSLabs and several other developers have really done a marvelous job with their renditions of an airplane but none of them really REPLICATE an airplane. Air and flight are just way too dynamic to put it in code. Xplane for example tries to replicate the feel of a moving airplane but it still lacks a lot, it’s good, but far from perfect. In my opinion MSFS offers the best flight physics ever by far and while the default airplanes are there so we have something to play with until the 3rd party developers are ready, we can certainly expect incredible flight models from our developers. Regardless of some UI flaws or bugs that are there in the default 1$-airplanes. I’m really excited when I think about the future of MSFS. Some bugs in a G1000 however really don’t matter. That’s just a gimmick anyway, the real business is the flight model.
They do not have to understand the Flight Sim. All they need to understand is the market value of the sim and the market. They are doing quite well with both.
Yes, I have never used any simulator that was at all like the real thing. I suppose some of the full motion set ups come close but the price is insane lol.
Be it cars, planes or whatever a PC is not going to come close to replicating the real experience. I get the same thing racing sims. You can’t feel what the car is doing, you can’t feel your inputs you can hear and feel the engine, drive train or transmission. Nor can you feel the G forces that you need or see things nearly the same way. Not to mention the controls and the layout. In a car rarely need to look at anything. My body just knows where it is at. When I need to shift I don’t look at the shifter, my hand just falls there and I do it. I don’t even need to think about it. This you could replicate if you tried hard enough and spend enought money I guess.
Also in simulator there isn’t any fear or repercussions. You are not going to die or get injured. They won’t pull your license and it isn’t going to cost you 10’s to 100’s of thousands of dollars if something goes wrong.
As far as things not being perfect, not working quite right and not being the same as real life like runways and frequenies it never really bothered me much. I am not a pilot but I would think that is part of being a pilot. You need to be able to think and adapt. If it isn’t exactly how it is supposed to be then figure it out and move on from there. I would hope that is what you would do if something didn’t go right in a real plane.
I didn’t mean to insinuate that GA or private pilots are not like that at all. Sorry if it came off that way. Many, actually most are pretty forgiving when reviewing sims becuase of the things you mentioned. It just seems that some of the commercial pilots and/or ones with military training don’t seem to be too concerned either way. I think they have bigger things to worry about lol. I would assume in your case with your experience, I am going to assume many years of flying (did I call you old? lol) the same things would apply. Rather that throwing a fit because something isn’t just right instead you kind of say “Well that was odd, lets try this. Yep, that worked.” and coninue on.
And I am not saying there not legitimate problems with this sim, there are and I hope they fix them. But the things some people expect out of a 60 dollar game boggles my mind. This isn’t ultra expensive FAA approved training level software. This is an open world sand box with airplanes. That we can mod if we want. Heck if I want I can mod a GA plane to have 1000 hp and do 500 knots. That isn’t all that real either.
That is exactly what I meant, yes. It’s a very inexpensive way to enjoy our world from above, to simulate flight, be it a C152 or a 747, if one doesn’t like the default 747 (let them update it :D) then use the PMDG version as soon as it’s there etc. We can literally do what we want here, the sim is just a platform. And as I said above in my opinion a very good platform.
Btw, absolutely no offense taken and I didn’t mean to sound like I was complaining, but elaborating
