Game randomly crashes mid flight

I had no flightplan and I have no rolling cache at all.

But nope, it’s not the AP either. I got the same hand flying the plane… in exactly the same spot .
Oh well, off to flying somewhere else then.

two additional rounds… no issue…

Had you may be such tools like google-maps-addon installed ?.. its a guess, but if yes, it changes the hosts file.

No, everything vanilla.

And I’ve just completed a 1hr long flight elsewhere with no issues at all and all my community addons back in. These things drive me crazy .

I take comfort in not being alone with CTDs at exactly that same spot, but it’s cold comfort .
Thanks for checking it out.

that it happens each time as same spot is normaly a good condition to analyse an issue… But I can’t reproduce it, but may be other users in forum can.

Another idea is may be remove shader cache (windows cleanup) and sometime seems helpfull to remove in AppData the scenerycache/index. But not sure whether it will help…

As of right now I’m not able to play msfs anymore. I tried lots and lots of things including doing a fresh install of msfs (not intended, coming back to that later on). Some time after I made this post my CTD’s almost completely stopped but they made a comeback in the last 3 days. At first it was in about one hour intervalls but its gotten worse over time. After trying alot of other things I did a verification of the game files and not knowing that theres a bug going around that verifing your the game files over steam deletes your whole msfs, I was forced to do a fresh install. Even after that fresh install, I started it and… it still crashed, sometimes it gets to the loading screen and sometimes it just instantly quits (even in safe mode). Im out of ideas…

I uninstalled ReShade, deleted the msfs folder in steam common and installed it again, fixed an error I got with an DLL called ucrtbase.dll (installing the English (US) Language package fixed it) and I rebooted it. That fixed the crash on startup thing for me. This is completly different from the original mid flight CTD topic but I just want to point these possible solutions out incase somebody has this problem too.

the common US Lang pack error, thought in meanwhile all users know about  … you get then error-code …000409 and ucrtbase.dll. You find these hint about in official FAQ too.
Thats also the reason why we allways ask for the message from windows event viewer.

Hi all. If i’m here, it’s because I had several CTD too. ;-((
For me, it’s very randomly, not at all, as for some of you, at an exact point or time or action.
The easiest is surely to say that it comes from the last update, but for me I wonder if the internet connection can be the problem. It happens with or without my addons ( they are mostly all my own add-ons for beaufort SC), while still loading, or in flight.
Yesterday, I had the crash, 3 times in a raw.
First, in flight after maybe an hour.
Second after restarting the game, just before arriving at the finale windows " ready to flight", and the 3rd one after being like 10 secondes in the game. I gave up, and went to bed. Today, it was after 10min in flight.
Is it the server, as that game is so good that we are so many connected? Is it the connection? Mine is very bad, in the south east USA. Every neighbors is complaining, but as every humans, we are pretty good at that. Lol. Or is that the game itself? MSFS is still in development, and I’m glad they already let us use ( test) it, because it’s already very good.
We all know that a computer works the best the first day, and after every update, install, un-install, it just go slower, and start to crash. This is computer.

Was flying from HNL to SFO and during approach (4.5 hours into the flight!!!) I get a CTD… this is the log… any suggestions?

Yes this happened 4 times to me. MSFS crashes at the same point in time (not position) on the first leg of the Austria bush trip just before Linz. Its about the 30 minute mark (i’ve not timed it exactly). I’ve tried slightly different routes and with auto pilot on and off but the same happens just before I get to Linz Solarcity. The ETE of the flight seems a bit ambitious so I’m wondering if it times you out but hey why does the whole program crash! Have any of you found a way around this other than flying the first leg in developer mode? I’ve not got the G3000 addon but it is now included in the plane on the latest update

My CTD always happened in the very same exact position, so I just gave it a wide berth and was able to finish the trip. However I had two other CTDs during the following legs, which never usually happen to me, but I seldom fly the C208.

I thought the crashes were connected to the C208/Garmin NXi/autopilot combination, but during my tests I had the same crashes with different planes/avionics in the same spot so :man_shrugging:

Anyway I flew around the other CTD sites with AP off and was able to complete the trip.

Oh, and I don’t think the length of the flight had anything to do with the CTDs because one of them happened during the four minute long leg, at the end of the flight.

Come to think of it, the crashes always seem to happen when I have a flight plan loaded and while approaching the destination airport.

Hey thanks for that, I’ll give it another try with autopilot off and give that area a wide berth. It must be an Austrian triangle just East of Linz!! When I have the time to try it out again a few times I’ll let you know how I get on and the route I took if I finally avoid it. Cheers

Was just flying KEWR(NYC) to EIDW(Dublin)… just about to descend so I go to kitchen really fast came back and game crashed. Based on these logs… can someone help me determine the cause?

Hi, I recreated this issue flying the Austria Bush trip leg 1 at the spot marked with a blue cross. After reading your post I deleted the Austria data from the activities folder to do a clean start. I avoided the area you and I had the CTD by flying the black route line marked and finished the flight and got a completed on the bush trip
Thanks for the suggestion to keep clear of the area.

Yep, exactly what I did :+1:.
Still no clue about what’s causing the CTD though :sob:.

Happened to me just. Flying at FL360 about 50 miles from Linz then CTD with the VCRUNTIME error. tried to load in four times at Linz (LOWL) three times trying to spawn at the runway and once at a gate and still crashes. I load in at another airport and that is fine.

Same thing happens to me. Frame rate drops to 1fpm, sound cuts out and CTD

I restarted my computer after seeing a windows update and can now load into Linz fine

If you’re using intel 12/13th gen and XMP, worth try disable the dynamic memory boost function in bios, previously when enabled Msfs CTD once a while when using xmp and rock solid when just run base ddr5 4800, error in prime95 torture test in an hour at ~512FFT, now disabling that it have zero issue at prime 95 for 2 hours and no CTD in three days for me using xmp

Unfortunately, a lot of the advice regarding CTD’s are pretty much snake oil. Mods, no mods, memory leak fix, registry fixes, nvidia control panel tweaks, windows tweaks etc. Bios updates etc.
Literally, you could do everything or nothing at all and get a CTD.

I had only one plane in my community folder, no scenery, libraries, or anything at all…and get a CTD.
