Opening MSFS2020 using the program search button (Windows + S) and as administrator solved my problem in one shot. A key update program (about 650MB) that I had been missing and that required administrator privileges immediately loaded with a white (not blue) progress bar, following which the standard update (blue progress bar) also loaded rapidly and completely, with no “end freeze.”
After closing MSFS 2020 and reopening the program using traditional means, that also now works. Success!
It’s good you found something that works, but be aware that you may eventually not be able to use the sim if you do that.
The sim will change to comply with Windows updates, and if you don’t have the updates you will run into issues.
YEP me too. 20 second update, and my driver crashed. I had to do a CLEAN install from NVidia.
Now it shows the intro MOVIES and says press any key… when I do I get a XBOX login and it shows my email and user name and that I’m LOGGED IN. When I click LETS GO - it loops back to the video and never gets out of the loop,
I repaired game services and xbox and no help. I also checked the store for any updates and none.
Thanks MSFT - this month I got some ■■■■■■ DUNE ■■■■ and my game shut down… shortly after I bought a new machine for it with 14900 and 4090. = ( grrr.
Well after all the trouble I’ve been through. The game was working fine last night. Then I turned it on this morning and it got hung up on the loading screen. The music was playing but nothing was happening. So I shut her down for a while and did some other things. Came back with same problem on the system. Now i don’t know what’s going on because it is loading again without any help from me. It took all my data off from all my previous trainingf lights. Only left my profile.
I’m going to just start considering doing maintenance to this app every week. Thereby setting time enough to try to coax it into loading with different actions. Not expecting anything to work. After it begins working then I will go back to my normal play schedule again until the next week. If it doesn’t work I will just leave it alone for a week and think of doing a reinstall again. This app could turn you batshit nuts, with all the problems it has all the time. But when it works I love it so I’m not going to uninstall it forever. I am very glad I own it so I have an unlimited amount of downloads and reinstalling. And I’m becoming more and more familiar with all the problems it has. So I will just warn all the newbies that I see on this forum, to expect many and varied problems. And to just keep coming back here to find the answer to that problem. Because every problem I’ve had has almost always been solved by conversations or by observations on this forum.
The people on this forum are very helpful and I thank you all for that!
I thought I was the only one dealing with this because I tried every single support solution and my game is just dead ever since the Carribean update. For refrence I tried:
Reinstalling the game mltiple times, removing my cloud profile and deleting all my progress EVERYWHERE, changing modems, changing internet connection, wired and wireless, removed my account from xbox, unplugged the console for 2 minutes, forwarded. DNS ports, in the game settings turned off and on online connection…literally anything support told me to try, I did and I am at the same spot.
Its stuck on “checking for updates” which I can skip by going in and out of the game and that somehow stops the process. But then id be stuck on loading screen for which I have to enter a new game and then back out to FS2020 which will trigger the game to go into main menu. My marketplace is grayed out and content manager is just non existent so I cant install any updates, cant have access to my purchases and cant play anything that isnt downloaded like the free landings etc that came with each update. So after all those hurdles, I “can” enter the game but its a gimped version and I lost everything I invested in it.
P.S. im on xbox. Game was on gamepass but I even upgraded to deluxe and now I cant even get back to that because my content manager is in an infinite loop thinking im not online. The game worked perfectly for a whole year before.
I fixed it! After three whole months i figured it out thanks to Steam being temporarily banned from today where im located, people said oh just use the Google DNS servers settings. And it would not be banned anymore. So I thought, what if i did the same thing on the XsX. Took 30 seconds to change, FS2020 booted immediately into newest updates, i got access to everything again. Try this if nothing else worked.
For whatever reason, something was blocking my connection with the FS servers. Wish i found this out earlier then send all those angry emails to support
Hi @WickedlNl
Well. I’m glad your back flying again.
Can you tell us what the DNS IP addresses were that were failing, and the Google IP addresses that are working for you? Just so anyone that might have the same problem in future can try them out?
Thanks!
You are right. I had the I guess typical router DNS: 192.168.0.1
I went into Network settings, Advance settings and Under DNS you have 4 slots to fill in. Once you fill in the first 4 boxes, it asks for a secondary DNS option. Both are google DNS addresses:
DNS 1: 8.8.8.8
DNS 2: 8.8.4.4
Thats it. I left the menue and tried the game again and it booted up instantly. No more infinite “checking for updates”, stuck on dune loading screen forever or grayed out market place and content manager. My game has been updated to the Premium edition as well. All aircraft and airportrts and liveries I bought are back too. Everything works perfectly now.
Well I was able to play for several months, many missions in many different planes all over the world. Logged out two days ago and can’t get into the sim again. I can select my location and aircraft but the sim will not load any further. I can wait for hours and nothing. I have to use task manager to get out of the load screen. I have tried every suggestion I’ve found on my computer and so far no luck. Anyone with ideas.
No the screen will slowly move to full right and remain there forever. No completion, no plane, nothing. I have to use task manager to get off page and terminate Msfs.
Hi @Charliechan3066 ,
If you temporarily turn off all 6 data connections within Options | General Options | Data | Data Connection (i.e. Online Functionality, Bing Data WG, Photogrammetry, Live RW Air Traffic, Live Weather, Multiplayer) & then go to the world map, configure a flight & click on fly, does the sim then start a flight, or does it hang at the same point during the loading process?
