My game freezes every minute or so for about 5-6 seconds, I’ve tried about everything the 'customer ““service”” tells me to do, but nothing helps. Searched online and some things seemed to fix it but then it returns, it’s driving me mad and microsoft has no solutions other than turning down the settings. I tried capping the fps to 30 fps but as you can see that doesn’t help. I have a fairly decent pc and fps not capped can fly at 50 fps on these settings so turning down the settings is not the issue. Between freezes the game runs perfectly. I’ve attached a video (freezes at 0:20 and 1:10) and my Dxdiag file. If someone knows the reason it’s freezing that would me amazing!

I do have freezes like that once in while. Not even one per flight, but say once per 5 flights or so. I can live with that.
I’d start with a completely cleaned out sim and a simple plane, like a Cessna. No liveries, no mods, no 3rd party software. If that runs okay, start bringing back in more stuff and see where the problem starts (if that works). In your youtube I see a livery. Trust none.
I’d also look into some outside programs as possible causes. Virusscanner? Windows Defender? Have those been excluded to look at sim files? Something in Windows ‘Protected folder / memory’ settings? Any overclocking going on?
Another idea would be to open TaskManager next to the sim and see if something else spikes as soon as you freeze. Or if any other applications are using the GPU at the same time.
And of course then there’s the GPU settings… there’s so many options…
Thanks for the reply. You have these freezes too, do you know what the cause is? It looks like something is loading but it makes no sense.
I checked task manager and when the game freezes the cpu and gpu usage drops to zero for those 5-6 seconds.
I have no idea. They happen so infrequent with me that it doesn’t really bother me. And I can’t investigate if it only happens once a week. If I had your problem I would turn the whole machine upside down.
In Taskmanager, try not to focus on Flightsim… if it totally freezes, 0% is logical. But what other software is running and at that point perhaps really high…? That would be my focus when it comes to figuring out if it’s another piece of software. In general you could start up and just look at what’s happening with the CPU without even focusing on freezes: what else is running and what can you eliminate.
Of course, that’s only one strategy with an assumption it’s ‘something outside’ causing it. You can spend days this way chasing the wrong answer. Could be as stupid as a faulty audio-driver.
In that sense I would also try to eliminate audio (no bluetooth), any other stuff connected to the computer (disconnect it) etc.
It’s really a process of elimination, and retrying, without guarantees you’ll find it quickly.

I sure would like to know what kind of system you are running so that you only have a couple freezes per week. I get 30-second freeze up every two minutes. I can’t even use this simulator anymore. I tried XP11 again last night and that thing ran so fast it was unbelievable.
I just think that it’s the ■■■■ program.
Nothing special. i7 with an nvidia 2060 and 16gb ram.
I still have them. Notably with the DC-6. Usually in the beginning. It all freezes for say 5 seconds. Can be annoying cause the state jumps. But not always. So when descending and it freezes… it either comes out of it and then I’ve dropped a 1000 feet (so something was still running), or it comes out of it and it’s at the same point as when it froze (this is really a total freeze of the CPU).
But it’s so little and usually only once per flight, that I still haven’t investigated. It isn’t happening often enough to even try to troubleshoot. Would have to sit there waiting for it to happen and then only have like 5 seconds to figure it out. I just shrug, hope for the best, and continue flying.
But I’ve also turned off everything by now. I trust nothing in this sim. So I don’t use photogrammetry (or what’s it called), I have no AI-traffic and I’ve turned off Live Traffic (after CTDs).
Maybe that promised big update this month will make a difference.

If I’m not going to use photogrammetry I will just use X-Plane. It looks about the same I suppose. I think the bottom line is this program is not ready for any computers that are currently on the market. I think we are going to have to wait another five years.
I’m having a similar problem: every 20-30 sec my system freezes. Then after about the same time its coming on again. This happened in FS not only when (trying) flying, but also in options etc. And it also happens while updating. I’m finally reinstalling FS right now.
What I would like to know: is the whole window frozen so that you cannot even move the FS window?

Freezes by me too, audio also goes haywire during each freeze, micro stutters have become macro

I couldn’t help dust off my old XP11 archives this morning lol, after so much visual degradation I wanna cry.

Same thing here, but it’s gotten worse. It was initially freezing for 10-15 seconds, now it’s up to a minute or so (sometimes).
Specs: RTX2060 Super, i7 10700k, 16 gig ram.
Occurs on loading screen, menus, gameplay. At any random time, but frequently. I’ve tried a bunch of fixes and went as far as a complete redownload and fresh installation (no 3rd party stuff).
Unplayable, unless I can find a fix.
Edit: prior to the update, the game had been working fine, for months. Never had this problem before.

Im having same problems. Not a problem before the update. Unplayable now

have u found was to fix this yet?
exactly the same as you.
only game freeze, windows is ok.
For whatever reason, I’ve had no freezes occur in the last hour (after a 3 hour break). I flew the A320, Icon A5, and the Bora Bora discovery flight. Before then, it was freezing frequently. Bizarre.
There have been no updates that I’m aware of, and I can’t think of anything obvious that I’ve done to fix it. I’ll check in again soon.

Interestingly the graphics card temp goes up until about 80+ C just before the process becomes inactive and the card cools down again.
But inactivity also occurs while loading the game when GPU temp is very low…
80°C ? is that the card in general or it’s hotspot which could be 10° hotter and in danger territory?
With the added boost from the update there always comes a price so I’m sure that some of you will have to undo some of that tuning you were so proud of and start again, otherwise start lowering in game settings.
I closed and re-opened MSFS and did a quick A320 flight. It’s still working well, so I’ll share what I’ve done:
When I was troubleshooting this I looked at the following potential causes:
-
Rolling Cache - the update resets this. I’ve seen older threads where this was causing freezing and CTD’s. I corrected this, but it didn’t help.
-
USB devices: I found an older thread associating crashes and freezes with USB power management. I went into each USB device in Device Manager/Human Interface Devices, and Universal Serial Bus Controllers, and disabled “Allow the computer to turn this off…” under Power Management. Still didn’t fix it.
I also noticed that I could cause a freeze in MSFS by disconnecting and reconnecting my Thrustmaster Airbus devices. Maybe reinstall USB game controllers?
The last thing I did was download USBDeView (get at your own risk) so that I could monitor the connectivity of the USB devices. I don’t know how this could have caused a fix, but after this MSFS has been operating without freezes.
This isn’t to say it won’t freeze again, but so far the game is running well.
Edit: One other thing I’ve noticed - the A32NX does not appear to be in the store anymore. Have they slipped in an update??
