Garmin 1000 and a bit more

Been flying in the sim for a couple of weeks now and the scenery is great. But I have discovered a couple of things that need some attention at some point.

Generally I fly the 172-100

In creating Direct-GPS flight plan I can find no place to set up the approach while on the world map, I have to do that when I am in the plane and sitting on the ground and enter it directly into the Garmin. Plus, the menu button only works partially-you can’t activate a leg, say in the approach to set up the landing, but rather have to set a waypoint on the map to get into position.

If you are flying a GPS rout and are a bit away from the magenta line when you activate NAV, the plane goes to the flight path and passes it, then corrects and passes the path again, sort of like a drunken sailor. It ends up on the path but has to zero in on it.

This may not the right place for this last bit, but I would really like to see a real 3 monitor ability in the sim. Not the NVIDIA stretch the main screen across across 3 screen and distorting the image. I hate to bring this up, but X-Plane had a pretty good way of doing that. With 3 monitors in play the scenery would be even more impressive.

Your observations of the autopilot match what I see, and it is definitely an issue and not correct modeling. In addition though, there are issues with the G1000 and entering/managing approach in the PROC section. It is very buggy to the point that I consider it not usable, and the main reason I categorize this sim as a VFR sim.

But regarding choosing the approach runway on the world map when you setup the flight, you can do that. Right click on the destination airport and choose “show details” and then you can see the runways and highlight the one you want and right click and choose “set destination”. I am fairly sure that also sets that runway/approach in the G1000, but I am on the road at the moment and unable to test and confirm.

Right now, the way they’ve set up the flights, if you select a GPS flight, it is by definition a VFR flight, and ends with ATC giving you clearance to "left traffic runway xx). As far as I’ve seen they haven’t set up GPS flight to a transition fix, and then have you set up an approach that loads from the world map to your Garmin. I’ve filed IFR while airborne a few times just to get an approach (which you can request another approach if you like), but that’s just a workaround for a system that’s not set up right to begin with.
Fully agree the plane acts like a drunken sailor when trying to capture a flight path. Way too aggressive angles to capture, and then invariably overturn and end up having to turn back to the track. Would suggest you go upvote this issue to help lend your voice to the problem.
