Garmin AP Won't Engage

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

On several aircraft utilizing Garmin avionics (both the 2020 V1 versions and 2024 V2 versions), the Autopilot master will intermittently not engage. This can occur at the start of the flight where the Autopilot will never engage the entire time, or it can occur after the AP has been engaged, the disengaged, but then will never reengage again after that. When the AP is unable to engage, this includes keybinds mapped to “Toggle Autopilot Master” and clicking the physical softkey on the Garmin panel in the cockpit.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:

I’ve observed the issue on the C172, C400, and DA62, but believe the issue is tied to the Garmin avionics systems and could theoretically occur on any Garmin-equipped aircraft.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes and yes.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

This occurs intermittently, but I can reproduce it in almost every flight if I engage/disengage/reengage the AP enough times. Sometimes it happens the first time (as in, the AP never engages at all), and other times it takes several on/off/on cycles of the AP master.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Select an aircraft using a Garmin avionics suite
  2. Attempt to engage the autopilot by any typical means (either the in-cockpit softkey or a keybind)
  3. If the AP did successfully engage, disengage the AP and repeat steps 2 and 3 until it eventually will not engage

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

This seems to be a matter of having Set Autopilot Disengage rather than using Autopilot Off for the button on my yoke/stick to turn off autopilot. This binding seems to permanently set the autopilot in the disengaged position until “Toggle Autopilot Disengage” is used, after which AP master can then be turned on.

I’ll give it a few more flights to ensure this is the case and then likely mark this as solved.
