Welcome to the 5th flight in Gunpilot’s new SHORT series of Challenging flights, carrying on from the past over 4 years of events (200 flights) that ran for 3 hrs week in, week out.
Flight Details:
Alright, listen up — this is the story of some tough-as-nails pilots, who don’t fly from fancy airports or smooth runways. No way. These folks are facing real, raw challenges, flying small two-seater planes deep into the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Their mission isn’t easy. They’ve been tasked with flying supplies and support into remote jungle villages where there are no roads, no trucks — nothing. The only way in or out is by plane.
Their aircraft have to pass through thick, unforgiving jungle — places where giant trees stand like solid green walls. In these kinds of places, the airstrips aren’t proper at all. They’re not straight, not clear of grass — in fact, they look more like part of the jungle itself. One small mistake and the plane crashes. If a wing touches a tree, it’s all over. If the wheels slide in the mud, it’s a wreck. And taking off is just as risky — if the tail of the plane hits a tree branch on the way out, it could be a deadly crash.
These pilots are forced to fly low — skimming just above the treetops, as if the plane is brushing the jungle canopy. That’s dangerous flying. The clouds hang so low you can’t climb higher like the big commercial jets. They’ve got to know every twist of the river, every peak, and every sudden gust of wind. And the wind? It’s wild. It hits like a punch and throws the plane around like it’s had one too many drinks.
Sometimes, it gets so intense, you’d swear the jungle itself was trying to swat the planes out of the sky. And when they come in fast and low, dodging branches and diving through gaps in the canopy, you can’t help but hear that old tune in your head — “George, George… George of the Jungle… watch out for that tree!” Except here, it’s not a cartoon — it’s real life. One slip, and it’s not funny. It’s fatal.
These pilots need the eyes of an eagle, a steady hand, and nerves of steel. This isn’t normal flying — this is a test of heart, skill, and courage. One wrong move and it could mean disaster.
The Aircraft for this event is the Cap-4 Paulistintia
*Again, a packaged up WEATHER file has been developed and included along with the flight plan, negating any need for anyone to dial in weather settings, as well as ensuring that all pilots are experiencing exactly the same weather conditions. The Weather Preset file is located in #gunpilots-events (click this link Discord) to be taken there. Load this file directly into the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 directory on your PC in the PRESETS folder which is located within the WEATHER folder in the aforementioned MSFS2024 directory .
