Getting Horrible FPS with Good Setup

Sim Update 2 Beta | MSFS 2024
I was playing with smooth sessions until I don’t know what. Now every single aircraft is a pain to fly, including the C172.
I’ve all the suggestions in the other threads here but none seems to work for me.

Edit: I’m barely getting 30FPS with Fenix or any aircraft at all. I get around 25 to 28FPS in the C172 at EGLL(default) or HKJK(add-on airport).
I’m averaging 20FPS at best most of the time.

MY SETUP
32inch 144Hz Display
RTX 4060 8GB VRAM
Intel i5 13400F
32GB RAM

Please help me out.

While I do not have an Nvidia gpu I do read in this forum about driver issues. Have you changed your gpu driver lately?

@novnovlima Can you send a photo of your FPS counter from MSFS? That will tell us a lot and help clarify what may be happening.

Yes. I updated to the latest drivers via the Nvidia App.

Sure thing. I’ve attached a few images.

VRAM is exhausted. Disable Ray Tracing. It frees about 4Gybte from your VRAM. Hope this helps for you.

If you are GPU limited by 20 FPS at 3440x1440, you need to lower your settings to the minimum and temporarily turn off Frame Generation just for testing purposes. Clear your Nvidia caches: Steam Community :: Guide :: Clear/Delete NVIDIA Shader Cache. Then, you can try renaming your Community folder and creating a new empty folder labeled “Community” and then restarting the sim. If FPS haven’t improved, it indicates something faulty.

Have you recently updated your GPU drivers? Or tweaked your BIOS?

And lastly, have you only noticed this FPS loss when switching from SU1 Stable to SU2 Beta? If you are only experiencing FPS loss in the beta, then try rolling back to SU1.

Again - I don’t have an Nvidia gpu but perhaps the latest driver is pushing you over your vram limit. When you go over the physical amount of vram on your gpu (Nvidia or AMD) then Windows has to cache the additional data in memory which is waaay slower than GDDR6 vram and your sim becomes a stutterfest.

There are many other threads in this forum regarding exceeding your vram that you can search on. MS/Asobo currently are trying to fix the vram stutterfest by better managing the vram to stay under the physical limit. It is a known bug that they have targeted SU2 to fix but are still struggling with it.

I don’t have Ray Tracing. At least, to the best of my knowledge I’ve never enabled Ray Tracing.

Just for the sake of it, what’s your FPS like if you run everything on LOW settings Xd

Turning settings down will help.

It used to run very well after launch and after SU1. I only noticed this issue this week (Since Sunday to today.)

Does this include the “Raymarched Reflections” in the sim settings?

UPDATE

Previously, I had Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) installed on a 1TB SSD, with a separate 256GB SSD dedicated to my add-ons folder (managed using an add-ons linker). In this configuration, both MSFS 2020 and 2024 ran very smoothly. The only occasional frame rate drops I experienced were with the iniBuilds A350, which I understood to be specific to that aircraft.

However, starting last Sunday (which is when I first noticed the frame drops), I began encountering DXGI DEVICE REMOVED(/HUNG) errors whenever I launched the simulator. After attempting various troubleshooting steps without success, I decided to perform a clean reinstallation of Windows. During the reinstallation process, my 1TB SSD was not recognized by the computer, so I removed it and proceeded with a fresh Windows installation on the 256GB SSD. While Windows installed successfully, the frame rates in MSFS 2024 were never as good as they had been previously (as mentioned in my original post). I didn’t install 2020 because MSFS 2020 was too large to install on the 256GB SSD.

I discussed this issue with my brother, who echoed the suggestion made by @WingWarper1 regarding Windows using storage for caching files. Consequently, I purchased a new 2TB Samsung SSD, deleted MSFS, and reinstalled it on the new drive, while keeping Windows on the original 256GB SSD. This change has resolved my frame rate issues. I am now achieving good frame rates, around 30 FPS at Heathrow with Terrain Level of Detail (TLOD) set to 100, resulting in very smooth gameplay. Therefore, the problem most likely stemmed from the storage configuration. I also upgraded my RAM by an additional 32GB, but considering my RAM usage was never maxed out before, I don’t believe this significantly contributed to the improvement.

Thank you to everyone who offered their suggestions and assistance. I am truly grateful for your help.
