So i have an high end system (9800x3d/4090/64gb-6000/quest3) and scrolling this board for hours.
I know that finding the right setup for each system is difficult due the diversity in components. That why finding the best option in VR is always a challenge for me, trying to get the best performance/quality. Simmers with and older CPU and and 30 serie have a lot more to tweak then newer systems. Also VR compared to monitors is a world of difference. In the day i did sim racing i had my checklist with options and settings but that was on my older system (5800x3d/3080TI). So a lot of these tweaks are not necessary for me now.
I do not want to tweak settings if they don’t give me any gains
A few questions:
Gamemode on/off
Hags on/off
Optimizer windows games on/off
HPET on/off
Intelligent standby list cleaner?
Latest nvidia drivers 572 or 466
DLSS version and what preset.
Native hmd HZ (90/80/72) and ASW
OpenXRtoolkit or latest ohnespeed mod
For reference my system:
466.36 preset j
TAA
Gamemode off
Hags off
Hpet on
Optimizer windows games off
Intelligent standby list cleaner on
80hz asw
Vd godlike 200mbps av1
Oxrtk and ohnespeed 100-100% and rest 96%
From what I understand, the best way to improve your fps is to come off TAA and use DLSS Quality using DLSS4.
I say this even though I know that you tried it and didn’t like at least aspect of DLSS4. Now if you prefer TAA over DLSS and are happy to take that hit that is fine and it is your personal choice.
I can’t remember why you went back to 466 drivers though. I think it was something else, maybe sound related.
I found by accident that you need HAGS on if you want Framegeneration on. Everything else I think its a personal system thing. If it wasn’t then there would be a definitive list of do this.
The fact that I have not seen one and that people keep asking the question says that there is no firm answer.
Like yourself, I keep reading posts to see what others do and see if it applicable to me and then try things out.
Some I keep, most I don’t.
Thanks…i am also on TAA now. With asw i run at steady 40fps. Could not get used to the ghosting in the instruments.
I went back to the old nvidia driver. Dont think the new ones will benefit my 4090 and because i dont use dlss it seems fine.
Msfs runs fine in vr now. Maybe i can get a few more fps by tweaking and thinkering but 40fps asw (80 fps native ) in godlike resolution on hvec av1 is fine i guess.
Most issue come from the broken msfs gameplay i think
That sounds fine.
The thing I would say though is that unless you actually have a reason to stay on 466 then you should give 572 a try again.
The reason is that even if you are not interested in DLSS4 you are still getting a more up to date driver and therefore there maybe some small benefits here and there.
Now if you try it and you get a worse performance than your settings give you under 466 then that is a valid reason to go back. After all maybe TAA is better under 572 using DLSS3.
You need to do your homework, there are no quick fixes in VR, less painful in the long run if you take your time to understand How to Optimise MSFS for VR - Channel LFD
I’m currently using 572.16 and its working great. Just do a bit of googling to find out how to enable dlss4 with msfs2020. It’s not all that hard, just a bit fiddly.
Thanks for all the tips. Tried 472.16 with preset K. The main disadvantage of this version for me is that with dlss when i look sideways the ghosting is very noticeable. Also much ghosting on the rolling drums on the instruments. I stayed on 80fps (40asw).
This will break my imersion to much in VR.
Maybe if i needed the fps with a lowerend system to get 40 fps that would be a good option. But for my system i rather have clear 40fps then 60fps with ghosting.
Switched back to 566.14 and preset j. Did not see any differences with TAA 472.16
