Hello everyone. I was wondering about the expected performance and quality of game provided by this laptop:
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU 16 GB GDDR6
- Boost Clock 1245 MHz & Max Graphics Power of 105W
- 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK (2.6GHz - 5.0GHz)
- Mobile Intel® HM570 Express Chipset
- 32GB Memory 2x DDR4 Slots (DDR4-3200, Max 64GB)
- 512GB SSD + 1TB SSD
- 9 I/O ports including Thunderbolt 4 (Type-C) 3x USB 3.2 Gen1 (Type-A) 1x HDMI 2.1 1x mini DP 1.4
- LAN: RTL8125-BG REALTEK (2.5G) Ethernet
- Windforce Infinity Next-gen Cooling for Laptop
Hopefully can be used for everyday flying without any weird bugs or performance issues. Connected to a bigger 4k screen/VR, saitek pro bundle, ethernet cable.
Is it even worth playing sims off the laptop like that? I can definitely sacrifice a little performance for mobility, especially that the laptop version of 3080 seems to be a little better than desktop 3070.
Wish you all a great day!
You’re limited by the 105W TDP on the 3080 (and that’s likely at boost, normally less), so that’s not going to perform like a desktop 3070. In fact, it won’t outperform a laptop 3070 that runs at boosted 140W like the Lenovo Legion 5 pro’s or 7i’s. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Legion-5-Pro-16-review-A-gaming-laptop-with-a-bright-165-Hz-display.554931.0.html
You can compare that one against the Aero 17 3080 on that site that they tested…the Legion w/ 3070 is generally higher even with a not top of the charts AMD CPU and the 3070.
That said, it gets about 10-20% better benchmarks to my Razer 17 pro i7-10875 2080 super maxq, and I run it at 4k ultra settings, but slide the render scaling to 80, which lowers the rendering resolution and upscales to 4k without any shimmering effects. I find it looks more natural, less crunchy that way than running at 100%. With that in a gen-av plane I get super smooth rendering even in dense cities like NY or Tokyo with frames not dipping below 30fps generally. I don’t fly the big boys with glass cockpits much so can’t speak to that.
Just curious,
how much the cost of that laptop?
I have Alienware m15 r4:
i7-10870H
32 GB RAM
RTX 3080 8 GB (150w)
Windows 10 21H1
I have no problems. After update 5, I’m running at all ULTRA graphics. No stutters.
to much.. beside of the price tag of these so called “gamer” laptops my hint would be that gamers and simmers, which let here PC running usually for hours, should not choose a laptop.
