Hi
I was trying to set up my controls for a glider in MSFS 2024, but could not assign a joystick function to release the tow cable.
In MSFS 2020 there is an assignment called Tow Plane/Winch release or something like that for this function.
Searched everywhere in the MSFS 2024 control settings, but to no avail.
What am I missing or doing wrong?
Appreciate any help. Many thanks in advance!
Hi, in the setting controls menu you need to select a glider. Then open the Instruments and Systems menu. The last entry “Tow Plane” has the item “tow plane/winch release”.

Hi,
Thank you so much for your help!
I was trying to assign a tow release function to the Got Friends Discus 2c sailplane.
The problem is that the Discus 2c is not listed under “Gliders” in the aircraft selection menu. Therefore there is no “Tow Plane” entry available for it under the “Instruments and Systems” section.
Hopefully I can figure out a work around for this.
Anyway many thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
Hi again,
Found the solution for the Discus 2c tow release.
In the Got Friends Discus 2c aircraft .cfg file I added the following line under [GENERAL] just below “Category”:
object_class = “Glider”
This changed the category of the Discus from an Airplane to a Glider. And voila the entry “Tow Plane” now shows up in the settings control menu.
Hope this helps anyone who is looking for a joystick assignment for a tow release in the Discus or any MSFS 2020 glider which does not show up under the Glider menu in MSFS2024.
Thanks for your hint! I own the Discus 2C as well, but did not use it for a longer time. Now I know how to get it working.
Hi,
I have added this line to several 2020 gliders and this seems to work for all except the Schleicher Ka-7.
For some unknown reason the Ka -7 refuses to change from an Airplanes to a Glider in MSFS 2024.
