VR is relatively new experience to me. I discovered a way to make the immersion even deeper. After a demanding flight to a new airport I like to shut down the plane and “go outside”. Small wireless keyboard or game pad works best for this (as there is no teleporting and VR controller support). I just use left/right/forward/backward/up/down translations plus I stand up and just walk around my plane. This works best with small plane at nicely modelled airfield, especially in the mountains, with a lot of landscape surrounding you. I just like to spend a couple of minutes sitting under the wing or wandering around, exactly as would do after real world flight.
You can also do your preflight outside check before the flight. C172 is pretty nice modelled, even if there is no hole in the static pressure source
Highly recommended.
Yep I agree 100%… Well worth doing.
One of the coolest things I have done in VR was to walk into the passenger cabin from the CJ4 cockpit and take a seat in the first passenger seat facing the door.
It just so happens that with my room setup my couch arm rest is in just the right position to sit down IRL… Once I figured that out, I had heaps of fun freaking out elderly relatives who were experiencing VR for the first time over Christmas.
Please, don’t hesitate to share a short original video of your adventures!
I did this right before my G2 died. Got up out of my chair and walked around outside of the plane. So cool.
I wish you could start standing in that hangar where you select the aircraft. Then you’d walk up to it with the door open, and “get inside” by sitting down at your desk. The immersion experience would be incredible.
It does get a little weird if you walk around a tail dragger though because you’re still in the tilted orientation of the plane.
I’m happy that nature has finally found a way to help you meditate.
