Liking it so far. Good visuals, nice flight model. Bummer about the sound, though. Hearing the satisfying clunks and clicks of switches before starting the engines usually is half of the fun but is completely missing here…
Oh, and it has one of my pet peeves: too opague gauge glas. It even starts glowing the darker the ambient lighting gets:
Blender 2.83 has some small worries: from time to time the materials are lost.
It seemed to me to have rechecked everything before the last compilation but I’m not perfect. The MSFS Glass parameter has been replaced by a Disabled that I did not see during my checks.
This will be fixed in the next patch.
I switched to Blender 3.3.5 for the 2 pilots but the work for the 3 planes was a bit heavy to achieve in time. This will be for the next addon…
“Perfection is not of this world, even if we try to approach it ”
That’s good, thanks!
Have been waiting for this one. Too many aspects of the geometry and cockpit details of the DC Designs were off. I knew either Golden Age or Lionheart would finally step forward.
as is now, will ad more or update later
and one more paint now on FS.2

if someone want the 75l300 sound like the pt17 or 13 change the line in aircraft.cfg from Sound = ""to this Sound = “....\gas-stearman-model-75-common\sound” in my liveries
Just uploaded a small improvement mod for the Golden Age Stearman over at flightsim.to:
Boeing Stearman Texture Improvement for Golden Age Simulations for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS
Several small parts and bits around the cockpit have been upscaled.
It should be compatible with all liveries.
- Magnetic deviation card
- Wing texture normal map
- Seat belt straps
- Rudder peddals
Have fun!
p.s.
Anybody doing a Varney Air Lines scheme?
Regarding the textures of the gauges’s glasses, the problem has been found and fixed : MSFS glass material had been lost before last compilation.
A new texture has beeen applied and now I just test the last version : at dusk the glasses have the good appearance !
The new files ( gltf/bin ) will be included in the next patch.
Thank you, looking forward to it!
Question for those who have Stearman experience - what RPM drop should be expected when checking the magnetos? I see what appears to be a small drop (maybe 25 RPM?) when checking the Mags. Same with checking the carb heat on the ground, the RPM’s barely move. What is to be expected? I haven’t been able to find any good information on Run-Up procedures on the internet but I know that there are those here who have that knowledge. @Stearmandriver2
Love flying the Stearman - thanks for the release! The Stearman is my VFR sightseeing plane of choice. I was a passenger in a late 20’s bi-plane once and it was a wonderful experience. Similar to the Stearman with the big radial in front. Thanks!
RPM drop during mag check depends on which mags are fitted. The plane I most often teach in is fitted with tank magnetos for example (also approved for aircraft use) that yield no RPM drop at all during a mag check. We do grounding checks often on shutdown with that plane to ensure the switch is working…
Carb heat drop on the 220hp and 225hp engines is almost not discernible on the tach, but you do hear and feel a slight change in the engine cadence. Little more noticeable drop on the 300hp engine.
