If the bottleneck is using only one CPU core, wouldn#t it be possible for Asobo to make FS use more than one ?
it is using more than 1 core, quite a few more though.
The thing is is that there is a primary tread (the main thread), that makes sure all threads stay in sync. This thread gets the most load.
After a certain point (around 6C / 12 threads) adding more cores/threads is pointless.
That’s why CPU’s like the Ryzen 9 5900X/5950X and the i9 10900K are complete overkill for this sim (or any other gaming workload at that).
Sure, MS/Asobo will continue to optimize this, but due to the nature of the sim, you’ll never see all cores/threads get maximum utilization.
Well, I don’t know, I imagine it’s a strategy to make the different CPUs on the market compatible, I suppose, I don’t know.
I have 8 cores with 16 threads, when it prioritizes in thread 16 almost all of the FS, it does not mean that the other 15 are in Idle, they are working with lower ranges, but they are seen from 0 to 100% of use.
Since the game launched I’ve been running it at 1440P ultra with a RTX 3080, and the game would occasionally utilize 99% and would drop down in the 80ish range without recovering. This week I picked up a 4K monitor, and the first thing I noticed other than the phenomenal visual upgrade from moving up to 4K, was that now my GPU usage pegs 99% load and never drops during flights. I also noticed via the in-game developer FPS overlay that it now shows that I’m GPU limited (all green), with very few CPU limited notices. When I was running @1440P it would continuously flicker back and forth between CPU/GPU limited.
