GPU freezes every minute

Hello,

since a week or so my sim is freezing every minute or so for like 3 seconds, when I fly the PMDG 737. The aircraft must run, so when I load the plane cold and dark everything is fine until I activate the aircraft systems…
This is even visible in the hardware-monitor of my GPU when it is taking its nap - see the attached screenshot.

I have updated nvidia drivers, switched back to DX11 - nothing worked for me.
I hope you guys have an idea what is going on. Strange there, that my RTX3070 istnt even used up to 95%, should my i5-13700 not be a bottleneck…

Cheers

Take a look to the following post. It seems you may be having the same issue I had.

CPU is the real problem, not GPU. The CPU utilization should be a steady graph in normal conditions, not the rollercoaster you have.

Hi geloxo,
thanks for your reply and I hope this will fix my problem - but I’m unsure.

First, I am running this still on an old-fashioned win10-machine. Your thread / Problem is about win11. But anyways, the idea behind it seems legit and this may also apply to me, but I don’t understand what you are describing in this thread: P-cores, E-cores - I dont have any idea what this means and how and where I can safely configure that and what will be the downside of it.

I would love to give it a try, but I need more information on this… Could you go a little bit deeper into detail about this please?

Thanks in advance for your patience!

Your CPU has Efficient and Performant cores. Windows 11 does not seem to handle them properly and assigns the demanding tasks to the efficient cores, when they should be assigned to the Performant ones. That´s the main problem.

I can´t confirm that issue exists also on Windows 10. Anyway you can still try the fix because it´s so simple that you don´t need too much technical knowledge and it won´t destroy your CPU nor Windows. It just changes the energy profile in Windows. You can try it by following the screenshot I posted. The sw can be downloaded here as it´s also supersimple:

If you don´t see any improvement then restore the settings you changed and uninstall that sw. Take a screenshot before changing anything so that you can easily remember what that original configuration you had. That´s all.

I’ve had this weird freeze for a split second once in a while, months back. It turned out it was a weird glitch in SPAD. When I closed it down, the stutter disappeared, and a relaunch didn’t make it return. Subsequent updates have probably resolved it as I haven’t seen it since.

Hi geloxo,

thanks for your quick response! Unfortunately this did not solve my problem - I started a quick test flight and after my IRS were aligned the trouble started.
Are there any other suggestions that may help?
I do not have SPAD installed, as hobanagerik suggested…

Cheers

Ok guys and girls I have figured it out and want you to know:

It was the autosave-function of onair that caused my problems… And I would have never checked that because it was my little child that messed with it :scream_cat:

Have a great day!

Hello, thanks for sharing this. Could you please elaborate what “onair” is? which autosave is this and how do I disable that?

Thanks for the update. It’s interesting that just like my issue it was an external app causing it.
