GPU recommendation for i7-9700k at 1440p?

Trying to take advantage of Christmas sales and in the market for a new GPU. Wondering if fellow simmers can recommend a GPU with my current specs for 1440p.

CPU: i7-9700K OC’d to 5.0
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 ti
MB: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO (rev. 1.0)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16
SSD: Samsung 870 EVO
PSU: 750W
Monitor: ASUS TUF Gaming 27" 1440P HDR Curved Monitor (VG27WQ1B)

I have an i7-10700 (no overclock) and an RX 6800XT. When I played at 1440p, I was usually CPU limited for my settings, so a card of that stature might be a little bit overkill for your system and resolution. Before the 6800XT I had a GTX 1080 and played at 1440p with reasonable frame rates. That’s just a bit more powerful than your current 1070Ti

I now have a WQHD monitor and sometimes will hit max GPU utilization so now the extra graphics power is coming in handy.

How do you think my system would do with a RTX 3060 or 3070?

My average FPS is 20-40 FPS but lately at airports it’s <15 and fine when I’m in the air. Then major stutters and low FPS during approach/finals.

I upgraded I 9700K from GTX 1080ti to RTX 3080, 32gb 3200. Doubled FPS in 4K and Rverb G2 works well. Seems like this combo is a good match. PC always jumbs back and forth between CPU or GPU limited. Was glad that i was able to keep rest of my hardware.

You think a 3060 or 3070 would be good enough or best to go with the 3080?

I am happy with the 3080 with 10GB, gets the max out of the 9700K. Especially if you like VR. More doesn’t make sense, less you might regret.

I run a 9900K with an RTX3070.

That gives me between 45 and 55 FPS at 1440p on Ultra and the bottleneck is the CPU.

Thanks I appreciate that. With that new card coming out, good chance the 3070/80 price come down? If I was to fork out a lot of $$ for the 4070 I wouldn’t have any $$ left to upgrade everything else lol so I think my best best at least for the next 1-2 years would to just upgrade the GPU. Sounds like everyone is ruling out the 3060 so far. I seen a lot of folks on reddit using a RTX2070 with my CPU but not sure why I would go that low if I can grab a 3070 or 80

I have a 9700k at 5ghz and use a 3060 12gb. I don’t have a 1440p monitor though, I only have 1080p TV for main display and a smaller 1400x900 monitor for gauges, but I do use DSR at 1440p on my main display,

I still get up to 70fps in the TBM. I keep vsync on though and easily hit 60fps with the 2 displays. Dropping down to 40’s in built up areas. This is with dx12 and the latest beta version of the ms store sim.

The Motherboard is the Key.
If you you have a PCI-E x3 motherboard you will not benefit the powerfull that PCI-E x4 Nvidia 3000 /4000 series use.

I have a 10700 (non K) paired with a 2060 super My MB is PCI-E x3 so I think is not worth to change only the GPU by 3000 or 4000 series without upgrading my MB and CPU. Maybe I’m wrong but I dont belive in miracles.

3000 series cards for Nvidia and 6000 series cards from AMD do not exceed the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 x16 GPU slots, so don’t worry about that.

I have this:

Thanks for the tip.
Do you think I’m gonna gain some performance changing my MSI RTX 2060 super 8GB by a MSI RTX 3080 suprim 10GB in a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot?

My specs:
I7 10700
Motherboard MSI H410M PRO (H410 chipset) (micro ATX)
RAM 32 GB 2666 mhz
Monitor iPS 1440 p @ 165 hz

Yes. I would guess you could run ultra graphics settings at very good frame rates with that setup at 1440p.

I upgraded from a 2060 to a 3070 (9900K 32GB) and my average FPS at ultra went up from 35 to more like 45-50 . A 3080 should do even better.

Ended up buying a RTX 3060 Ti

Now I’m not sure whether to have DLSS on or not.

Anybody have good Setting recommendations? I followed this guide in the link below to some extent but still don’t feel like I’m getting the proper performance. I can post my settings if need be.

PCIe3 can deliver up to 16gbps and an rtx3060 has an effective speed of 15gbps so theoretically anything bigger can bottleneck, even a 3060ti.

In practice, you’ll need a 4090 to probably see that.

Well that depends … Record MSFS in 4k lossless @ 60fps on PCI-e3.0 and you will get major stutters.

Completely unrelated to anything the OP is asking for feedback on. Please take it to PM if you’d like to share additional info.
