Hello, I am running msfs on a 3090 on a 4k screen. I have ultra preset on and get constantly 40+ fps. , screen is free sync so all good.
This week I am getting a 5k UW monitor. I am expecting a 25% frame rate drop since it’s 25% more pixels - so, short of just scaling down the whole preset to high end, which settings have the biggest impact on fps (and lowest impact on visuals)?
I remember months ago there was a post on this forum that detailed all the fps costs of each setting - but cannot find it now! Could you please point me to if? Thanks!
I think you’ll find you’ll be fine (unless you’re talking VR).
With a 3090 you’re almost certainly CPU limited and will have a significant amount of headroom on your GPU, even with everything turned up to 11 (except the LOD settings. They increase load on the CPU the higher you go).
The CPU doesn’t care what resolution you’re running so I’m fairly confident going from 4K to 5K won’t finish off a 3090.
You could always try lifting the render scale in the game to a comparative resolution to 5K and see how it works out. Increasing your render scale to 133% should put you in the right ball park.
Thanks that’s a good idea. TBH at ultra I am GPU limited all the time anyway, never had a CPU limit, even on a 3090 - even after high end I am gpu limited often (but at +10-15fps on average)

You will more likely be GPU limited if you don’t cap your FPS, but if you cap it at 30 you’ll find you have a very smooth sim and tonnes of headroom on your GPU. I find that just letting the GPU rip creates a load of unnecessary noise and heat for very little fps benefit.
Either way, you can experiment with what works and what doesn’t by upscaling to 5K
Hope it works out ok!
