Graphics Setup on large TV

Hi. I am new here and new to MSFS 2020 so forgive me if this question has been answered already. Thanks for your help in advance.

I have recently purchased a computer specifically for playing the sim. My setup is as follows :
RYZEN 7 3700X
32 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU
Windows 10 Home.

I am running this on a 4k 58 inch TV.

When I first start the software, it seems to set all the graphics settings to Ultra which is great however, I don’t think I’m getting the best out of it. Close to the ground the graphics are still quite pixelated and the runways for example look pixelated slightly. I’m not seeing anything quite like I am seeing on Youtube Videos in terms of graphics. Also, when I fly closer to the ground, the graphics do become a bit juddery and not smooth.

I know that using a large TV is not the best setup but I would have expected slightly more.

To be honest I am not even sure if I have the correct screen resolution in general on the PC, let alone the simulator.

I’ve not tweaked any of the other settings for graphics as I have no idea what I am doing.

I would really appreciate some help with getting this setup perfectly. Thanks so much!

you will not achieve anything like the quality on a computer monitor compared to a TV, even if it is a good TV. Level of sharpness and detail are significantly different.

Thanks RFpilot. I appreciate that. To be honest it’s not bad, quite incredible in fact if you compare it to other games, I am just after help in getting it to the best it can be with what I have got.

Im on 4k OLED 55 inch and i can said you it’s just impossibl for you with your screen computer to achieve my quality level , black level and Hdr level . On the oled screen the hdr is just amazing.

Jamezdg what is exactly the model of your Tv ? i can give you some tweak to get the best
I have exactly the same setup than you . ( 3800XT instead of your 3700x )

Amazing thank you! I have an Ambilight TV (lights up the wall around the TV. Incredible for gaming!) the model is Philps 58PUS8535.

Something like the Samsung C49HG90 49" is looking pretty sweet to me …

I’m thinking about getting this…

I’m also thinking, at this time, do I REALLY Need it, with so many other more important things taking a higher priority – Mortgage, Bills, Potential BIG Medical expenses, rocketing food prices, loss of income because of Covid, looming increased taxes … just to name a few

Yep, same here… do I really need it, (NO) already have a 32" 4k monitor. You know us simmers, we never think rationally.

Very good choice im on philips OLED 854 with ambilight too very immersive

First your HDMI wire must be : 2.0a or 2.1 not 1.4 because you will be limited principaly in the color depth from your HDR.

HDMI-2_0-597x266

Second: you must enable your HDR on windows setting right click on the desk :

Since you have philips you do have very good motion compensator so you can put in your Tv settings the motion compensator to maximum then turn your screen in nvidia setting to 30Hz.

After that click on apply then change your

  • outpout color depth to :12 bpc
  • outpout color format to : RGB
  • outpout dynamic range to : FULL

Apply , run your sim in fullscreen and enjoy ( the sim will be limited to 30 fps but it will be like 60 fps )

( sorry for my bad english )

not specialy all presets on ULTRA / Vsync OFF/ my game is running perfectly just little bit stuttering since last update but it will be corrected

What’s your rtx 3080 brand ? mine is EVGA and i overclocked it with precision X1 i won 4-5 fps

ps: in your nvidia control panel you must turn off MFAA and FXAA  as on this thread : Major FPS drop after Patch 5 - Limited by RdrThread - Fix Identified - Turn off MFAA in NVIDIA - #89 by Ir0nManFlight

It’s a Geoforce RTX. I am fairly new to the gaming PC world so wouldn’t have any idea about overclocking. You have been really helpful by the way, thanks so much for making the effort to make screenshots for me. Your advice worked and it’s running so much better and smoother!

I have a minimal Laptop (Acer Nitro 5 – about $600) and an optional 27" HD display + Sidewinder 2 FF Joystick. It is more than sufficient to run MSFS, and to both enjoy the Eye Candy, Fly on Vatsim, and spend far too much time being overly concerned about does not work correctly , no matter how fancy a gaming rig one has.

Unfortunately it was very short lived. Still issues when I get anywhere close to the ground. Very juddery to the point where it now stops for half a second or so every few seconds. :frowning:

You enable the XMP profile in your bios settings for your DDR4 ?

I wish I knew what that was! I am very new to all of this. I will have a look to see if I can find it. Thanks…

CaseBug92496684, I just downloaded Xbox Cloud version of FS2020 (announced 4Jun22) to my Samsung 32” QLED 4K QN32Q60A 2021 TV. Have you played with FS much on your 32" Samsung? If so, any lessons learned on the FS settings?
