ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Description of the issue:
In some patches, ground textures are unexpectedly low in resolution and terrain polygons also low res.
Coordinate or location of issue:
This report is from approach from south to ENTC (flying from ENBO), but seen many places. Also around LOWI, just to mention another example.
This is with otherwise good performance, no VRAM overload or anything obviously bottlenecked.
LOD at 250-400, 4K TAA FG, photogrammetry on.
Pretty sure the terrain are captured in plenty detail at Bing and co, and that it’s a rendering/presentation issue, and not a data issue. But I cannot be sure.
It’s a shame, because it kills the immersion when the rest can look astonishing.
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
I would say every flight, especially noticeable in terrain. But to varying degree. Much terrain look very nice, but then out of the blue (no pun intended) things can start looking low fidelity, even though metrics / performance otherwise look fine.
REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
-
Fly in some terrain / highlands / mountains, were it’s easiest to spot.
-
Look out the windows on terrain, either from cockpit, cabin or external view.
-
Notice that some terrain looks great, but some parts have unexpectedly low fidelity, even with high LOD, relatively close to terrain, good connection speed, no VRAM issue or other obvious performance issues.
YOUR SETTINGS
What peripherals are you using:
[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
Only for showing FPS. Makes no difference to look of texture, whether on or off.
[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?
AMD RX 9070 XT
[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?
AMD 7800X3D, 32 GB RAM, NVMe, 1 gigabit fiber internet connection, MS 2024.
Running latest drivers, firmware etc.
And seen in SU 5, SU 5.1 beta and earlier versions. Never solved it seems.
MEDIA
I hope, in full screen, you can see the terrain having patches of unexpectedly low fidelity. I hope it comes across in the screenshot samples. At my end, it’s very visible.
Perhaps others can add more similar observations.
