When 2024 looks good, it looks very good. But when it’s bad, it’s awful. I flew a new route in the 172 classic over Tokyo to Mt Fuji recently, and I noticed how good the countryside to the NE of Tokyo looked from 4000’. It was truly impressive.
Then I got close to the city and it completely fell apart. Buildings became featureless spikes and pyramids, even within a fairly short distance. Roads were just barely recognizable as different colored strips through a mostly flat area.
Then as I got away from the city, things improved again.
I have 400 Mbps internet and my cache is set to 128 GB on Xbox series X. I intend to repeat the flight just to see if things improve after getting cached from the first flight over the area. I haven’t flown any other flights since, so everything should still be cached.
I’ve got the 2 TB SSD expansion card with nothing on it yet. I’d dedicate the entire thing to cache if I knew it would help. I wish MSobo would tell us more about how cache works and whether or not there are practical limits to its size that should not be exceeded.
I honestly cant believe how bad it looks sometimes. Here another LOWI impression… TLOD is at 200. I actually paused the Sim for a few minutes to see if anything loads in. But that wasnt the case…
I have to say that textures look way better in my case. It’s to be said that before the patch I had the worst possible textures and now they are far from perfect but they look way better. It’s past 2 AM here but tomorrow I’ll update with some screenshots.
Xbox series X/S got the shortest end of the stick. I canceled my game pass ultimate because of msfs24. Like seriously how does a new game look worse. Feels like I’m playing a mobile game! We’ve been scammed and fooled into thinking this is the next-gen. Absolute mess from the team. Who wants a series X?
On Series X, it does look like a bit of the low res stuff has been fixed. However, there are still many, many model problems:
Here’s a clip in the career mode where this (bag? I don’t even know what it is!) is still 10 polygons and the chair dissolves. Also note the propeller trying to keep hold of its existence on the far left.
Here’s a clip from the training airport where these rocks just a bit away from the buildings are missing polygons. Only when you get really, really close do they load it correctly.
These are not far, remote areas where players are unlikely to see these. This is in the mode that is front and center, in areas they picked. How is the game still continuing to have PS1 models, weeks after the game launched, on Microsoft’s best hardware?
Also I feel like I have to mention this. How the hell does a movie-based game look leagues above this (supposedly) AAA game? Seriously, been playing the new Indiana Jones game. That ■■■■ rocks compared to this.
That’s photogrammetry, not sat imagery. It’s blurry because it hasn’t loaded yet. Live Pause and let it load. Flying 200+ KIAS will cause some heavy scenery (like PG/TIN) to load more slowly. Even low-and-slow it takes a few passes to load every detail available.
The 1.2.7.0 patch does not address the spotty, blurry textures, and bad LOD settings. Everything is the same. The simulator’s visuals are still bad and frustrating.
I updated this morning, unfortunately there is no change. However, I noticed that the color settings have become worse, and the quality of the photogrammetry is worse.
In summary, it is still not good. I don’t understand why this serious problem is not being addressed as a priority.
