Ground textures are blurry, LOD System is too aggressive, and Loss of Detail in 2024 - streamed scenery AND CLOUDS looks worse than 2020

Guessing that’s a no..

Been a year already, can only hope now with the backlash from them downgrading 2020 in su16 to 2024 or worse quality it moves up the priority list!

Still remember the first time I flew 2024 and was shocked how much worse the ground textures looked to 2020. After watching the pre release videos I felt pretty duped. Think if their goal is to move people to 2024, they would focus on this a bit more as it’s the biggest thing (for me so assume maybe others too) that is holding people back now that they have fixed so much else. They nailed lighting, shadows, trees and so much more in 2024 but don’t seem to be able to give definition to ground we enjoyed up until su16 in 2020??

Still worse than current state of 2020, especially at higher altitude.

Yup, did some direct testing between 2020 and 2024 the other night in same area. Didnt need to take screen shots as with eyeballs alone is substantially worse in 2024. Tlod 400 used for both. It’s like there is extra blurring or overlay of some kind that makes 2024 look like a cartoon in comparison.

2024 ground sattilite images looks pathetic from even 4000 ft, Alod 400 And TAA.

Dear Team,

It is to inform you that the ground textures ( sattilite images) are blurry .

This is despite TAA, LOD of 400,

The sim renders the texture near ground but starts to become blurry even at 3000 feet or lower

In MSFS 2020, It’s still sharp uptil 8000 feet atleast but here the moment you start climing the ground textures noticebly reduces clarity.

Please tell , if this is done to optimise the sim? But at the cost of visuals?

If it’s done to optimise performance than one must admit so that we don’t keep on doubting our settings or high end systems or internet.

Or does the team have plan to fix the issue?

This issue takes me back in msfs2020 when the ground textures LOD clarity suddenly reduced after SU5 and Xbox.

I saw in their last live Q & A that they were aware of the regression from high-res satellite data and confirmed it did happen. Has anyone seen anywhere on if/when they’re looking at fixing it? See 7:45 in the YouTube video

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: I got blurry textures a short distance away from me, just behind the high LOD textures. Sometimes it pops in high LOD scenery in that section but most of the time it stays blurry.

I somewhat expect this in areas that don’t have a world update, but I installed the Australia world update before taking this snapshot and the problem persists. I noticed it with rolling cache off and after I turned it on, with a fresh reset and 50 GB. I’ve hard reset my console several times, and I’ve even switched off and on online functionality, and it sometimes gets rid of it but the bad textures eventually comes back and stays that way every time I look away and look back.

Not much I can change on graphics obviously because I’m on console, but I’m wondering/hoping that this is a result of slow servers currently? Is there anything I can do?

If you zoom into the circled part you can see what I mean.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every time

Hi,

Yesterday I did a flight in a helicopter in the Dallas, Texas area in MSFS 2024. I was horrified by the poor quality and blurriness of the ground textures there. Not to mention the repeated 1 to 5 second pauses during the flight. Downtown Dallas did not show up until I was about 5 miles from the city center.

Did the same flight again in MSFS 2020 and was rewarded by crisp, clear and sharp ground textures with great photogrammetry. What a huge difference!

For me MSFS 2020 is so much better, especially in VR.
