Still on my Ryzen 1600 at 3.8Ghz, I’ve decided to upgrade my GPU from the 1050 Ti to the (overpriced) 3060 Ti. How big step is this? For now Im using 1440 resolution on my LG 27GL83A, but rendered at Full HD instead. Settings are mostly on LOW and some on MEDIUM. I get “so and so” performance, but it looks quite ok.
Other specs: SSD and 16Gb RAM.
Which are the most important settings to boost when getting the 3060 Ti? Can I run in native res and / or go from low to medium, or medium to high on some settings?
If I go from my Ryzen 1600 to a 5600X, how big improment will that make with the 3060 Ti?
I have 3060Ti with i7 11900 and 32 GB Ram.
I get >30 fps on GA at full 4K, slightly lower with the FBW A320. Settings high/ultra, and terrain LOD 250
On VR, I get almost 20-30 fps with the FBW A320 on flight, settings high (some medium) terrain LOD 200
So I highly recommend the 3060Ti
I have Asus RTX 3060 Ti, Intel Core i7 8700K 3.70GHz, SSD and 32 Gb RAM. I run FS in 4K on Ultra. In FBW A320 (the only plane I fly) I have on average about 30 fps on ground (a bit less with high cloud coverage) with AI traffic and about 40 - 50 fps in air.
So I would strongly recommend getting RTX 3060 Ti for FS - it’s a great card and way cheaper then 3080 or 3090.
Thank you so much for your input! I’m still a bit worrief about that older cpu though, even if it is clocked to 3.8. Slso going from 16 to 32 gigabyte ram… What will that do? I am also thinking of replacing my internal SSD for a really fast nvme. I guess loading times always could be cut in flight simulator, right.
Are you playing in native resolution or are you playinh in scaled resolution? Since monitor is not 4K… I might be able to run in native resolution and quite high settings right?
Any äsettings I should stay away from rising over medium even with a new graphics card?
I have 4K monitor and I’m playing in native resolution.
SSD helps with loading times - I think it’s about 1/3 faster then it was on hdd.
My FS runs on CT1000MX500SSD4 and system runs on ADATA SU800NS38 (SSD)- I’m satisfied with performance in other apps (CK 3 loads insanely fast!)
I think 32 Gb RAM helps a lot in FS - both in fps and making things smooth.
I don’t expect load times will be much different if you already have a SATA3 SSD, so save some money there unless you need a new drive for other reasons.
Looking back on the system I built, especially knowing how much space MSFS eats up, I should have put the money into a 2TB SSD instead of a 500MB NVMe for my games drive.
I would just do the graphics card upgrade now and then wait and see how things perform for you. All the other upgrades will probably be minor in regards to your MSFS experience, but that graphics card will put you into another tier for sure.
Thank you! I actually have so many more questions, but I will spare you for now… =)
Or will I… Just one more: How come the loading times (from starting FS to being “in game”) is taking much longer time now than before? I have only DL’d Nordic and a custom mad airport. Could this be the case or somehting else? I also find the game to be less smooth after yesterdays geforce-driver. Might be som bad placebo though…
You’ll defintely experience a CPU bottleneck upgrading to that GPU.
The difference between those GPUs are huge however that CPU will not be able to fully feed the 3060ti.
You’ll get a performance jump with maybe poor lows and that gpu waiting for that CPU.
Keep in mind this sim in current state is still heavy on the cpu.
From past experience upgrading to a faster GPU and keeping my low end CPU did result in stutters/long pauses in this sim as was flying the airliners into big airports.
What will basically happen your 1600 will work harder to keep with the faster GPU so don’t be surprised if you get 100%cpu spikes.
If you fly GA you should be ok.
Like I said this game is heavy on the cpu even on 1440p
Which card did you buy? I am just in a similar situation, I have a 1050 Ti and want to buy a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 GAMING OC 12GB. I’m just wondering what your reaction was after firing up the sim for the first time on the new GPU except that I will be playing in FHD, 32 GB RAM, i5 9400
I went with the 3060 Ti, which is OC’d by 140 (core) and 800 (mem). It’s working fine in 1440. Most settings high, some ultra. Using DLSS/DLAA combo in game, for sharpness. If you want more frames, just use DLSS quality. TAA and DLSS/DLAA gives almost same numbers.
Using DX12. Smooth for me, but sometimes the VRAM get used to 100 percent. Not sure if this is mods or the game. It happens very, very rarely though! =)
Gaming in 2560 x 1440. Gsync on, nothing changed in NCP or in game (vsync off both in game and NCP, but lately running Reflex ON (no boost) in game. Works fine. Quite fluid.
50 - 60 fps.
With that I have the AMD Ryzen 5600X (stock , no OC, no PBO etc. All default). What else, went from 3200mhz 16gb ram to 32Gb 3600mhz - which did more than if I should have got a new CPU I guess. In DX12 its the GPU thats more important anyway.
