[GUIDE] Finding a Sim-Generated Log after a CTD (PC only)

Introduction

Did you know MSFS generates a log at the time of a CTD? This guide shows you where to find it, and what the log includes. It is incredibly helpful to help identify the cause of a CTD.

Finding the Log

If you are on MS Store…

#1 Open your File Explorer and navigate to the C://Users/Appdata folder
#2 Open up the “Local” folder
#3 Search for the Packages Folder and open it.
#4 Search for the Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder and open it
#5 Click on the Local State folder

Your folder path should be: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState

If you are on STEAM…
#1 Open your File Explorer and navigate to the C://Users/Appdata folder
#2 Open up the Roaming folder
#3 Click on the Microsoft Flight Simulator folder
#4 Click on the Local State folder

You’ll now see CrashReport and MSFSReport-OldCrashes. To view the crash log, click on either one of those files.

Why is this useful?

This states (but is not limited to) the following:

  • When MSFS Crashed + How long the sim was running for
  • Graphics Settings
  • Addons Installed when the CTD occurred
  • Flight Plan
  • Aircraft Used at the time of the crash
  • Location at time of crash
  • Packages being used (addons, etc.)
  • And much more
