H135 helicopter uncontrollable

I have downloaded the H135, but it’s uncontrollable because the helicopter yaws to the left and to the right automatically, with no AP engaged. When more power is applied, the helicopter yaws more to the right. Anyone has a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

Yes, what you appear to be describing is how helicopters react to control inputs.
When you raise or lower the collective (which changes the rotor blade pitch angle - not power incidentally) it increases or decreases the torque induced through the rotor system, the pilot (you in this case) needs to counter-act this change in torque by applying a corresponding movement to the anti-torque pedals (think rudder pedals).

You might want to read up on helo controls
Or change the flight model to xbox on the H135 systems, so it’s easier to control.

I found Rotor Sim Pilot’s YouTube videos helpful on helicopter basics. He’s a real life helicopter pilot. You can find lots of other YouTube videos concerning heli’s IRL and H135 control, demo flights, etc. Note that the YouTube video below on helicopter basics demoe’d in MSFS is a version or two of the H135 back, i.e., v0.83 - the latest might be 0.9 or so. And here’s a link to Rotor Sim Pilot’s YouTube channel where he describes his background along with earlier videos he made on helicopter control, etc. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJDfQ7vnO-CfEdosZG5hpRw

When I tried the H135 I was really underwhelmed by the flight model it reminds me of the poor flight dynamics of helicopters in FSX. To be fair given MSFS does not currently support helicopters I was not surprised.

The payware Bell47G is considerably better and uses its own external flight model and does fly and react in a much more convincing way. However, it is really quite underpowered and keeps you on your toes to fly well. I would not recommend it to someone new to flying helicopters.

The developer of the H135 has just released an early access payware H145, however it has quite a high asking price $42. I do not have it myself at this point, but reading comments and feedback from my fellow helicopter simmers the flight model still needs some work - which I think is fair given it is early access.
Worth noting the H135/145 are both modern helicopters and have systems to make them more stable and easier to fly… even if they were modelled well I personally may not enjoy them that much.
That said I do hope the developer goes on to make the H145 a great benchmark as a helicopter in MSFS.

At this point XP11 and DCS would be my recommendation if anyone wants to fly really good helicopter models in flight sims. Looking forward to MSFS natively supporting them in the future - it’s hard to stay away from this new sim with its other considerable improvements.

Did you select the advanced flightmodel?

For the H135, yes.

This is the conclusion I’ve come to. I’m a sim heli addict, but even if they do work out the flaws in the H145 flight model (it currently has all the same issues as the H135) It’s just the most boring heli I’ve ever flown, which is obviously not the devs fault, it’s just typical modern Airbus, all about systems and automation. I keep trying to love it but im not having fun flying it. Even if they sort out the flight model i dont think ill ever enjoy it.

Clever stuff but dull as ditchwater to fly. It’s not a pilots machine, its for the button pushers.

If its fun people want, then as you say plenty of good helis in xplane and DCS. The Bell47 in MSFS is magnificent as well.

I agree with your summation of the 135/145. In 2001(Long before most here were around FlightSim)there was a guy named Jordan Moore. He created a Huey for FSX with an advanced flight model, He then founded Hover Control and went on to create many cool flight models for payware and freeware.
2 other advanced flight models spring to mind. Dodo Sim Jet Ranger and Milviz MD 500. Both Quality flight models and accurate systems. Hot start them and you destroyed your turbine.

Which Airbus helicopter can you fly simply by pushing a button? Thought all helicopters needed to be flown to keep from ending up as a lawn dart. The whole “it’s not a pilot’s machine” is a bit much, no? You battle the same laws of physics flying a modern turbine helicopter as you would a piston Robinson. They are all “pilot’s machines”.

I think the Bell 47 enthusiasts and heli enthusiasts in general should resist the urge to show up in every H135/H145 thread and dump cold water on anyone’s enjoyment of the HPG helicopters. There’s something mean-spirited about that. If something stirs an interest in helicopters, that’s good. And a true aficionado will eventually explore other models, find other threads here and elsewhere where opinions pro and con have already been extensively aired out, and arrive at their own conclusions. The HPG helicopters, AFAIK, have only been under development for the past 8 months or so and MSFS 2020 has only been out for a year. It’s going to take time for HPG to catch up with heli’s that have been years in development. So let’s all play nice together. As with many other places on the forum where acid rain seems to be the order of the day, I wish everyone would let the clouds part a bit, let some sunshine in, and give Asobo and developers some breathing space, and try to see more glasses growing from half-full (or however much they’ve been filled) rather than going in the opposite direction. Some fixed wing aircraft in the sim are much better than others. One could imagine someone showing up in any thread devoted to a more imperfect fixed wing aircraft and again and again pointing out to enthusiasts of that aircraft that they should switch to plane X, Y, or Z instead. Am hoping really skillful moderation can do something more than lock threads, etc., to let people enjoy what they’re trying to have fun with and get positive help when they’re asking just how to fly a specific aircraft - other sorts of advice and discussion seems a bit off topic.

I was a heli pilot in Vietnam and an instrument heli instructor (a long time ago) and I fly RC helis. I agree with JALxml about all the dissing of the H135/145. It is a very good heli to get into MSFS heli flying. The update I downloaded earlier this week took care of most of the instrument panel issues and in easy mode it is a good starter heli. Do download the quick start guide and follow the instructions.

I don’t think you can expect best of the best, to my knowledge MSFS was never designed to support helicopters. However, I have the H135 and I can use it just fine. Flying a helicopter is drastically different to flying an aeroplane, so it may take some time to get used to it. I picked up on it pretty quick though :slightly_smiling_face:
