Hand Tracking in MSFS - Leap Motion / UltraLeap native support for WMR/OpenXR

Hi again,

Sorry it took me a bit of time to pull this information together; your help with the VR community in the MSFS community is greatly and deeply appreciated.

Attached are two screenshots with the openxr debug information, taken from my PC when the Quest 2 headset was connected. I also enabled hand-tracking in the native Quest 2 headset menu for both instances.

Screenshot 1 - If I read it correctly, hand-tracking doesn’t appear to be enabled on the PCVR side of things when using the Oculus runtime? I may be wrong, however, to my knowledge I can’t recall any Oculus PCVR titles that work with hand-tracking, they’re all Quest 2 native apps or games, so that may make sense.

Screenshot 2 - I tried Virtual Desktop instead, which has a native Quest 2 app that supports hand-tracking. When I connected wirelessly to my PC, and opened the debug tool, I note that SteamVR is the correct run-time, which I did indeed switch over before commencing the test. From what I can gather in the debug information, hand-tracking does appear to be enabled? I also performed a quick test in one my PCVR titles, BrinkVR, with hand-tracking and it did indeed work on the Quest 2.

I personally use the Oculus connection when flying in MSFS, mainly because my performance and experience seems smoother, however, I am aware that quite a number of Quest 2 users swear by the Virtual Desktop experience as they get excellent results from it.

I think it’s both refreshing and exciting to know that hand-tracking with the Quest 2 in MSFS may, perhaps, be a possibility via the SteamVR platform and Virtual Desktop?

I’m a bit green, however, if I can help in any further way I’m happy to try and assist.

Cheers,
