Has anyone gone from super ultrawide monitor to large (50") 4K TV or vice versa?

Been using a Viotek 49" super ultrawide monitor since September and love the monitor, I truly do. I also play Eurotruck Simulator and having the extra wide field of view is really immersive. However, the single thing that I have an issue with is the size of things on the screen. Since vertically it’s more narrow objects don’t look as large as in real life and I think that causes a negative to the immersion. It does also make some instrument reading more difficult and often requires a quick zoom closer. Watching YouTube videos I often consider making the switch as seeing the views more true to life size is enticing.

So, has anyone tried both or decided to switch one way or the other? And if so, what are your thoughts? The good news is if I did do this I can repurpose the Viotek to upgrade my music writing setup from the current two 22" 1080p screens.

LG OLED 55" to 21:9 here

From 65" 4K TV to 32/9 samsung monitor. My neck is grateful…

If you switch to 16:9 bear in mind that you will lose the views out the left and right windows. Even if you zoom back the cockpit position the entire way I found it wasn’t possible to replicate super ultrawide.

For the past couple of months I have settled on 16:9 though, because on my 55" TV you do get that in-your-face verticality that you describe.

I keep meaning to try trackir with my phone to make it easier and more natural to look left and right (I want left and right for all the VFR flying I do). If that works out then I’ll have even more reason to stay 16:9.

Model number please?

I’ve been using a 55 inch LG OLED for several months now. The picture quality is outstanding and the size is incredibly immersive. However, I will be swapping out the OLED today for a UHD 55 inch LG. The OLED has an issue with dimming the screen during flight. Daytime it’s not as noticeable, but night flights are annoying. The screen dims and then will return to normal brightness when enough bright objects appear on the screen. Whatever brand you chose, the 55 inch size is awesome. Highly recommend.

Which 55" LG has 21:9 ratio? Can someone share the model number? Googling it I can’t find it.

LG 55BX6LB to Samsung C34F791

No 55 inch panel has a 21:9 ratio. They are all 16:9 standard widescreen.

I second that. I believe our friend up above is mistaken with his aspect ratio numbers.

How about 32:9 !!

LG 88BH7F-B

3840 x 1080 - 700 Nit :sunglasses:

Price: If you have to ask, you cannot afford it !!

And if you can afford this to play a flight sim, you can also afford a plane to actually fly.

Its only about $12K — would cost you about x3 that to get a PPL, and then $150 / hr..to make any us of it.

But 32:9 Imagine the Forum Bragging rights if you had one those .. you would become so Unpopular !!!

It would likely look terrible due to the image warping in the sim currently. I can even notice it on my UWQDH monitor. I can’t imagine how bad things would look outside of the centre 1/3 of the screen.

Why don’t you try a widescreen with a resolution of 3840x1600? I went to one of these from 3840x1440. The extra vertical pixels make a MASSIVE difference. Especially coupled with track IR.

I use this particular model:- LG 38GL950G

I have a 23" flanked by a pair of 17"s. I run the sim windowed and stretched to about 3000x1000. End up with about half a monitor on either side for vfrmap, LNM, Twitch, etc. Sure it distorts a bit as it gets away from center, but so do my eyes. That’s why I turn my head IRL. I’ll be getting the widest screen I can afford.

I have been using this sim on 49inch TV. It wasn’t a bad experience but it was bad for my eyes then went with a 27inch for a year. Now on a 34inch 1440p screen not too big not too small. I found a 34inch screen to be the perfect size for an ultrawide at least for this sim and when you pair with track ir that makes it even better!

Agreed. I have a 34" 3440 x 1440. It’s perfect for both general desktop use, general gaming, and MSFS.

Some day when MSFS has proper multi-monitor support, I may considering boxing myself in with 3 50" TV though. lol

I am running a 49" Samsung R1000 5120x1440, great view but you need a hell of a graphics card and cpu to run it

My current monitor has the same specs for the mostpart outside of the tighter radius. Mine is also 49" 5120x1440. And btw our res is a about 1 million pixels less than regular full 4K res.
