I do both flightsimming and simracing, and this recent article struck me it could just as well be about simming in general.
No, they havenât forgotten to have fun, but theyâve fully embraced the pervasive sense of entitlement that a lot of people have nowadays. But thatâs their problem, not mine. I enjoy the sim, fly it a lot, and have gotten more than my moneyâs worth. If people want to engage in flight simmer self flagellation, and be miserable, more power to themâŚLOL.
There will be still fun while you see people paying for things like this and reporting bugs even there:
A next gen sequel is on the making for hardcore⌠whatever guys who play this are defined as.

One of the comments on that Race Department page had a familiar ring to it:
"Itâs quite baffling how little steps we have made forward regarding to gameplay in these games, heck, in many areas we actually fell backward in sacrifice for the never ending pursuit of the so called âgraphic fidelityâ, a blackhole that eats infinite resource and time during development just for the sake of having a prettier skin.
Seriously, stop it, games nowadays already look way more than good enough, focus on ironing out issues and improve core-gameplays and features, please."
Itâs a familiar refrain, but itâs not a true statement at all, whether thatâs systems fidelity (eg âfizziksâ or flight modelling) or graphical fidelity (photorealism). If youâre talking about real world simulations both areas are equally important, and are also interrelated on a technical level to some degree (eg: weather). Gameplay relies on both for full immersion. It also depends very much on the individual games/sims scope and goals.
I could never use ACC in the rain, for example, because it looked so terrible so Iâd only drive in good weather in that. AMS2, otoh, is a lot better with weather, though also still has some issues but not as immersion breaking so more useable there.
In flight sims, MSFS 2020 OOTB made it feasiible to do real world VFR navigation due to the leap in graphical fidelity (not really possible before unless perhaps you spent $$ on localised graphics upgrades for debatable quality) though for best âbelievabilityâ effect itâs limited to a âsweet spotâ in an altitude band. eg: [OFFICIAL] Real vs. Sim Screenshots
However, weather & environmental modelling is still very early days here too: What about Tide effects? - #12 by Sonicviz
It also misses the point of the OP. You can totally have fun with what you have right nowđ
I think every time we come to these forums, we have to remember that the people who are having fun in the flightsim are, well⌠out there having fun, with no need to come here.
Then thereâs a small segment of the population who come here in hopes of learning something new about the sim or for help with something.
And then another small segment who come here because they donât know how to have fun and feel entitled to get that which they think they donât have.
And finally another small segment (I have a whole list of blocked users), who their way to have fun is to complain. And they will actively search for issues so they can do that.
Fun?
The brutal computer day begins at 4:45am, the computer is switched on before the first can of energy drink is opened, and excruciating15 hour long simworkday sessions of Snowrunner or Flight Simulator begin after a simple breakfast that is wolved down while standing in the dirty kitchen.
I whip myself with a very broad belt with a heavy buckle whenever pressing a wrong button on the MCDU to discipline myself, and the flight day takes ten hours and I need thrombosis injections because I am not allowed to move anywhere during this time (not even the toilet) while staring at the autopilot panel (if it´s on. It´s like RTX, it must be always on.)
A bed of nails I sit on made by a real Pakistan fakir keep me from falling asleep, and when the daily 17000nm mile long flight is over⌠all of that is followed by more excessive SnowRunner deliveries (but only in Zimnigorsk because other terrain is too simple.)
Very serious business all of that, no fun allowedâŚ
Well⌠no.
Just kiddingâŚ
Why should flight simming or car racers (or offroad car simulators) not be fun?
How is fun defined?
And isn´t part of the fun believing to have the best sim possible and (slightly) hating on other sims? Well not really hating but knowing by instinct that one owns the best possible simulators that exist, and all other sims are âlesserâ?
