Hello. I purchased a Saitek yoke to play Microsoft’s new flight sim, but I couldn’t find any rudder pedals. What should I use?
Next to the yoke I have my keyboard, mouse, and an Xbox controller. Right now the rudder is mapped to the left and right triggers on my controller, but that takes two hands. I thought about using left and right on one of the sticks, so I could control the rudder with one hand and have my other on the yoke.
Any other suggestions?
In the settings menu, there is a part where you can set assisted takeoff etc. I can’t recall exactly where, but it’s NOT the graphics settings. I believe it’s the next panel over. Within there you’ll find those assists! I’ll check back to see if that helped you
Any keyboard or controller based alternative is bound to be rather clunky and awkward imo. I’d turn on autorudder for now until I’d saved up for, or found, a set of rudder pedals. Not the most realistic option, but OK temporarily.
The keyboard shortcut to turn on the autorudder is Shift-Ctrl-U, hopefully that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll try the autorudder. In addition to yaw control I’m hoping it will help me steer a little more effectively during takeoffs.
I initially asked this question because I was trying to go through Flight School and I got stuck when it asked me to use my rudder controls… and I didn’t have any. (At that point I wasn’t aware that I could use the Xbox controller.)

The keyboard shortcut for the rudder is the 0 and the Enter on the keypad by default (Numeric keypad 5 will center it again). I wouldn’t recommend using them really though, I think mapping to a stick on the xbox controller is a much better idea.
I’d be interested to hear how the autorudder works for you – does it allow you to steer on the ground using only the yoke, similar to how auto-coordination worked in previous sims?

Yeah, I saw that in the keyboard mappings, but when I pressed “0” in the game I just switched to an exterior view of my plane. (I’m an American, in Berlin, with a Germany keyboard. So maybe that’s the problem.)
Anyway, I am using autorudder and it seems to work fine. It allows me to steer on the runway, so all is good.
