Hi All, not sure if it’s a bug or just the way the water textures are generated. I think I only noticed this since SU8 but it maybe that it has always been there and now my brain has identified the pattern I can’t not see it when the sea has lots of white waves on it. The first time I spotted it I was at altitude and thought it was a wind farm as the larger ‘corner’ dots are the most visible. It was not until I descended to view that I realised it was how the texture was laid out on the sea. Highlighted the grid in the photo below just below each red dot… Has it always been like this or is this something introduced recently? Thanks
PS apologies if you all now see this and can’t unsee it!
I believe the ocean textures are created with the tiles, but they should blend in.
On xbox, do you have a setting for water waves, and if so, is it on a higher setting?
I saw the same thing recently too on PC, really noticeable patterning of waves in the sea, looking very much like an area of effect re-used over and over again like tiles. It looks awful because it sticks out. I also see quite a lot of fairly horrible rectangles on frozen lakes in Norway recently too which doesnt look nice either. Its a bit 1990’s sim looking at times.
There was a video that was released shortly after Microsoft Flight Simulator launched in 2020 that showed a repeating pattern in the water (unfortunately, I can’t remember who made the video…I want to say ObsidianAnt but I’m not sure). So as far as I can remember, there have been repeating patterns since launch. But as for the repeating white dot, specifically, I couldn’t say.
I saw a pattern lately while flying at night and guessed it could be the top (red) lights of a field of offshore windmills? During daylight having a bug and visibility needs to be reduced obviously? Just a wild guess and I might fly over the region where I saw those red patterns lately and take a closer look.
I’ve been seeing repeating patterns on the water for a year. Noticed it when I first bought the sim…At certain angles or when white horses (flecks of foam) are present it becomes more noticeable.
