Hey, coming from Series X missed HDR when I first got the PC. I enabled it in all places, the sim, Nvidia, and Windows Display settings. Looks great again. It works on my set-up as using a HDTV as a display (Samsung Q80). Cheers!
To enable HDR, simply turn it on in both the Windows settings and in MSFS. Once HDR is enabled in the Windows settings, the monitor should automatically switch to HDR mode. If it doesn’t, please check the monitor settings.
If you’re playing a game that natively supports HDR (msfs), you don’t need to enable Auto HDR. Just make sure HDR is turned on in both Windows settings and the game itself for the best experience.
Auto HDR is “fake HDR” - is specifically for enhancing SDR games to make them look more like HDR.
I think perhaps the point of difference is one’s monitor? Am displaying on an HDTV, a Samsung Q80. When HDR10 is off, everything looks “faint” as you say, or flat/dull. With HDR10 on, it looks great. Perhaps the opposite is true for pilots with computer/gaming monitors? And so not making any recommendation, folks should just use what looks best on their set-up.
What exact model is your monitor? Where exactly did you notice the image looking faint – in a game, on the desktop or maybe on websites? This will help better identify what might be causing the issue.
1440p (Viewsonic 34" ultrawide) I just enabled HDR in windows settings and it appeared to look faint. almost losing brightness of colour if that makes sense.
Thanks for the info. However, “Viewsonic 34 ultrawide” isn’t the exact model of the monitor. Could you provide the full model number?
Also, make sure HDR is enabled in three places: in your monitor settings, in Windows settings and within the game itself. All three need to be correctly configured for HDR to work properly.
ViewSonic VX3418-2KPC does support HDR, but it’s important to note that its peak brightness might not be high enough to fully showcase HDR effects. That could be why HDR content appears a bit “faint” on your setup.
Additionally, try tweaking your monitor settings after installing the latest drivers available on ViewSonic website. Adjusting these settings can sometimes help improve HDR and overall image quality.
The monitor’s color profile should be included with the driver you downloaded and should install automatically. If it doesn’t, you can manually add it.
Additionally, settings in your GPU control panel (e.g. Nvidia Control Panel) can impact HDR performance and overall image quality. It’s worth checking those as well.
