HDR is non functional in [Testing both DX11 and DX12]

Okay, I did some more extensive testing. I think I was fooled because getting used to how the sim looks now. But it’s not working as already stated by many. Apologies!

Update: HDR is NOT working, but it does say it’s on HDR, the image is the same though.

Nvidia still has an open issue with HDR and Shadowplay. I have no idea if it’s the root of your problems.

What’s the issue? Prior to the breakage of HDR I’d been using ShadowPlay pretty successfully in HDR for both video and still captures (though occasionally it gets confused if I use Remote Desktop at any point, and seems happier after a fresh reboot).

(No point trying now, since it’s broken in the sim itself.)

It’s in the latest NV driver release notes as unresolved. That’s all I know especially as I don’t use either HDR or Shadowplay.

I think that’s this line:

[DirectX 12] Shadowplay recordings may appear over exposed when Use HDR is enabled from the Windows display settings. [200742937]

I don’t use DX12 as it overflows the 8 GB of VRAM on the RTX 2070S very quickly and then gives about 2 frames per second.

Hmmm this sounds important … maybe shadowplay in DX12 is causing all the weird glitches and memory problems?

I find it highly unlikely that the screenshot program is suddenly causing graphical glitches due to a problem that’s been in the NVIDIA release notes for some time.

It’s most likely about an incorrect data transfer about the actual screen captures from an HDR surface in some DX12 titles. It may not even affect MSFS. And it’s unlikely to affect anything but the captures.

Screenshot program?

ShadowPlay.

Exactly! So a bit more just a clipboard then!

I’ve definitely seen the recent lack of antialiasing mentioned a number of times elsewhere, but I don’t know if there is a thread dedicated to the issue. If you started running the sim after antialiasing was broken, then you haven’t seen it looking nearly as good as it is capable of.

Here is an example of a screenshot I took when AA was working correctly, back when Sim Update 6 was current (this is from Series X). The skyline is downtown Miami. Note the building in the center with the criss-crossing architectural details. Note how smooth the lines are, even the diagonal ones. If you look at the same building under either SU 9 or the SU 10 beta, the lines on that building are noticeably very jagged, as is everything else in the scene. Also notice how sharp the paint stripes near the wingtip are before, versus how pixelated and jagged they are in today’s version.

This screenshot shows add-on scenery from the LVFR version of Miami International Airport, so I don’t recall if that specific building is also there in the default scenery.

Here is another example from back under Sim Update 6, again from XBOX Series X. Unfortunately I don’t have a similar screenshot handy at the moment from the current version, but if you select the Bonanza and use the drone camera to look closely at the wingtip as in this shot, you’ll see a big downgrade in sharpness compared to SU 6:

Same here: HDR not working (at all).
1.27.11.0
PC WIN 10 DX11 and DX12.
HDR on desktop and in-game.
Samsung Odyssey G9 monitor.

Looks like HDR is working again.

Unless I am being fooled again.

I think the same, but actually I’m not 100% sure… I’m on Xbox. It looks not so washed out anymore. Noticed it yesterday already.

We haven’t pushed out a new update to the SU10 beta since build 1.27.1.0 on July 20th. We have logged the issue of HDR not working and the devs are aware, but if it does appear to be functioning correctly now, I don’t believe it’s due to a change on our end. I’ll check in with the dev team and confirm if they made any server-side updates that might affect HDR functionality.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I just checked and its showing SDR on my pc!

Can you make any statement if the HDR bug will be fixed with the next beta build?

Can’t see how it would change without a code update?
I’m still seeing non HDR on my system.

What do you see that indicates non HDR?
