HDR10 Overbright/incorrect range TEMP FIX via toggle

For those that wished the HDR in game would look better, this may be your thing. All ya gotta do is flip the HDR10 setting off then back on, do it while in the main menu hangar, that way you can see the direct comparison before and after of the sun light shining off the floor. If my theory is correct, you should see the desired effect of blinding light but not to the point where critical details are washed out. IDK I guess they are still working on fixing this stuff but for now its a simple jiggle the keys scenario. Thank me later.

I do not believe it is the same as the alt enter method may be correcting a windows HDR setting apposed to a in-game HDR setting. Besides if your windows HDR settings are correct and other HDR applications work as intended then we can assume it is related to internal issue of the game.

I still recommend that you attempt to recreate what I’m talking about because you may not even realize it is not exactly as how it should be.

No but the window system is controlled by WDM and the connected HDR system, so I may be unrelated to the games engine.

I may have a solution for that as well, you need to use the WINDOWS HDR CALIBRATION tool from microsoft store. Once you calibrate properly , that issue should be a non factor in all games.

Also make sure that you have set to RGB and 10bit mode in nvidia display control panel

let me ask you this first, did you try my suggestion?

HDR10 setting in game, turn off turn on you have to hit apply each time

it would be easier but its two separate issues

ok I’m that .1 percent then

its like having the gamma range too high and as a result minute details are eliminated and realism is lost. like looking at the shine on a new car, you see the sparkles and lines and grooves even tho its blinding, but when its overexposed you lose those details

Ok good luck picking apart other people posts.

You’re right, I brought a real negative energy for no good reason and that wasn’t appropriate. I apologize, and I’ll delete my comments.

Wait. What? HDR is working for me without toggling stuff. Is this a new super “process”?

No but as I tried to explain to the other guy, there might be a range of HDR that is not being achieved unless you toggle this setting EVERY TIME you run the game. Yes there is a certain range that it will hit that most people may be ok with looking at but in reality it is about accuracy of tonal range. Its a pain I know, but really its potentially the difference depending on monitor and graphics settings, if it looks realistic or not. Really just try it, its not hard, and all ya gotta do is look at the hangar screen to see that light coming in the hangar on the floor and you should notice it, the correct range I mean. Just remember you have to hit apply each time you turn off then on.

I gave it a try, because why not, right?

But, no, I’m not seeing any visual change. Might be because I’m running YCbCr422 colour format.

I don’t think it is the HDR that you see. I think it is SDR.

I am trying to see what you see.
I can see the following differences in the display for the Hangar:

Summary

  1. Both HDR settings use the HDR brightness and color calibrations for your monitor.
You can calibrate Windows/MSFS with the Windows HDR Calibration App (MS Store).
Note: Per MS, " You can only calibrate built-in displays with this feature. You won’t be able to use it to calibrate external displays".
I don’t know about this. But the color profile shows for my external GPU.

  2. The SDR settings change in brightness may be (my guess):

  • a. MSFS SDR = Off - Uses the default calibration of your monitor.
  • b. MSFS SDR = On - Uses the calibration set in Windows/MSFS.

No, that’s not it, I don’t know how to convey that I am beyond simple troubleshooting aspect of whether I am even using HDR mode or not, its full all around system wide hdr mode. I would only make a thread such as this if I was certain that the cause and effect of this setting is predictable and therefor useful to anyone who is having this slight HDR overbrightness issue. I’m not confused about the difference between standard dynamic range and high dynamic range. Again Ill say that I’m certain that others can benefit from this small tip for now, because for me, it takes the HDR and “corrects” it. In conclusion I recognize that not all of you will benefit from this workaround, but for those that do I am glad to have helped.
