Headset interference?

Can anyone help with my headset? I have set a different device (usb headset) so that I can hear ATC in a my headset and my plane sounds are coming from my speakers.
However, I’m getting a crackling, distorted sound in my headphones.
I looked to see if there was a ‘realistic’ setting of ATC crackle etc, but there isn’t so I’m wondering if my headset is faulty? When I’m in the sim’s menus there is no crackle sound, its only when I am sitting in my plane that the static sounds. If I go outside my cockpit there is no static sound. I’ve even turned ATC off but it still happens.

Thanks

Steve

Thankyou. I wasn’t sure where it should go.

Narrow it down …

  • Go into the MSFS Sound setting in Options, and see which Sound Slider affect this “Crackle Noise”.

  • Do you get this Crackle in any other program/game on your PC, or when listening to Intetnet Music or Videos ?

  • Is the headset wireless or wired

  • Do you hear the “Crackle” when the plane is cold & dark ?

  • Do you hear the “Crackle” when you are on the ground, in the middle of nowhere, parked in a field (ie Not at a busy airport)

In the sound settings, do you have “VHF Signal Degradation” turned on?

@FlightPlanes I also get this. There should be an option to shut that off, but the “VHF Signal Degradation” has no effect.

The only way you can turn it down is by lowering your COM VOLUME.

Yes, tried it on and off. Didn’t do anything.

Its only when I’m in the plane and I have ATC turned on in the menu and my radio on ready. so I assume its something to do with interference chatter? The plane can be turned off, but so long as the radio is on then it happens. Turn the radio off and it stops.

Simulation of Automatic Squelch, not being set 100% correctly ?

I would love to hear the Lightening strikes over the radios !!

It does actually sound quite realistic and I do like it. I was just checking to see that it was supposed to be there rather than it being an issue with my headset.
It makes me feel like I’m not alone when flying late at night… ‘there’s someone out there!!’

What is the simulation squelch and where do I find it? I know there is the vhf radio signal depreciation in the menu but that doesn’t seem to work as turning it on or off makes no difference in this case.
