Can somebody explain to me why I cannot fly any helicopters please?
In the first activity mission I cant get enough lift to stay flying, and I spin out and crash and when starting with engine running in free flight the same thing.
Im using TCA Officer Pack. My thrust is reversed which is fine but its like the axist doesnt go high enough and its like theres no power.
reversed is the default for aircraft … which means you start off on full power (collective up) when it’s actually down … I had this issue until I found the settings option to turn OFF the tick box. I then found that my yaw pedals where assigned to both my pedals and the stick(cyclic) for some reason … so I was fighting myself and the pedals kept trying to re-centre due to the stick. I deleted that assignment and now all is good. Good luck
check your controller assignments to ensure you only have the collective assigned. I found the helicopter throttle setting was not actually changing the engine speed, but was also moving the collective - effectively a conflict with the collective assignment - remove the throttle assignment if you have one.
make sure the governor is actually switched on. IT is located on the end of the collective.
It also looks like you are increasing the collective quite aggressively. When taking off in a helicopter you would normally raise the collective slowly until the helicopter becomes light on the skids, and would use the anti-torque pedals and cyclic to maintain your heading and position as you lift into a hover. If you yank up the collective you may well find the torque you induce will cause the rotor to slow - this appears to be what’s happening in your video.
I don’t know the G2 very well … but it looks like you don’t have the governor switched on … first 1/2 of the video you pull up (severely) on the collective and your rotor rpm immediately starts to decay until the rotor blades stall and you plummet to earth !
Second 1/2 of the video you pull up with the same problem and then add to it by rolling the throttle OFF … so everything turns to ■■■■ even faster … I haven’t flwon to G2 in 2024 yet … at present I get a CTD every time I try to select ‘helicopters’ to attempt it !
Even though I had a very nice VR flight in Switzerland just a few hours ago … it sure is buggy … but see if you can find an assignment for ‘governor’. The light on the dash may be warning of that ? Good luck
I am having similar problems, i have made a dedicated collective out of an old throttle and bits and pieces. I also have warthog hotas. I use this setup in dcs and fs2020 and it works very well for all helicopters. My botch job collective is assigned to collective in fs2024 as it is in fs2020 and dcs but i can’t get the collective to its full range, when attempting to land i lower the collective but it will not go fully down so i remain hovering in the air, i can use the mouse to put the in game collective down but i am not able to do this with my hardware. I have tried to use the ingame control settings to change sensitivity etc but no joy. Also within these settings there is no visual indication of the range when i move my collective. I have also recalibrated the hardware in windows settings but this made no difference. I forgot to mention that i also have rudder pedals. Any help would be greatly appreciated, maybe i’m missing a simple setting.
I have found that for some reason on the R22 and the Gyro copter I can fly around but then they will randomly pitch up severely that no amount of forward cyclic will prevent leading to a back flip and crash.
yep that’s what a real helicopter will do … you can never let go of the cyclic whilst the rotors are turning. You always need some forward pressure on the cyclic when in forward flight , and it only increases with speed.Remember, a helicopter is 2000 bits all trying to go it different directions at once and is never in balance… It is NOT a fixed wing aircraft that can be trimmed into balance in straight and level flight due to “dissymmetry of lift” and many other things.
Google ‘Principles of Helicopter flight’ by a NZ CFI many years ago that is still in use by flight schools around the world. It will teach you everything you need to master rotory flight. Enjoy
