Helicopter Training (Flight Training)

It would be wonderful to see a new addition to the sim with helicopter flight training.
Even the Airliner training only has two modules, would it be awesome if you added a few more modules for helicopter flight training?

I havent flown a Bell since SimCopter, and i was 8 or 9 when my dad let us play that.

Thoughts?

Agreed - my only heli experience comes from ArmA and I was pretty bad there - MSFS is only going to be harder, so I would love a training section dedicated to heli flying

Totally agree. Seems odd when they know for many of us it’ll be our first time behind the controls of a Helicopter that does just fly exactly as expect because is gamified like they are in GTA, Far Cry etc. I mean just figuring out which keybinds need to be used is a chore. If they want folk to use them they need to add lessons. To me this couldn’t feel more like a, we added to shut up the complainers but actually don’t care about them situation.

Welcome to the fourms!

Now that more and more helicopters are available for MSFS, it would be nice to have a tutorial because they are a challenge to fly. I have many hours in both real and simulator single and multi-engine aircraft, but I still can’t control a helicopter with any degree of success and I’m just an accident looking for someplace to happen. A multi-step tutorial would be a great help in learning how to keep these animals under control. The Airbus 125-145 series are really nice aircraft and will only continue to get better and better as they continue to be developed, but for me, they are only a toy for me to crash every time I get near one. Maybe this would be a good project for the MSFS folks somewhere down the road because a ham-fisted clutz like myself really needs some help!

I’m an experienced heli-simmer and i would absolutely support an in-sim flight school missions for helicopters.

My biggest advice for learning whirly birds:
Take it slow. Yes you are supposed to use more rudder/yaw than you’re used to. You don’t need full cyclic (joystick) movement to make a turn, just little corrective inputs. The flight model for the 406 (my preferred civilian chopper) is definitely a little wonky and needs work but the Cabri G2 should be just fine for learning the ropes. Hovering is a little tough but focus to the horizon and using little adjustments to keep it in place. VRS and Autorotate are easier to learn and recover from than the youtubers make it sound. There’s no need rip the the collective from it’s mount in order to take off, just slowly increase in power until lift is created. Remember what i said about little, micro adjustments? I wasn’t joking…

Turn off the helicopter assists too, they’re no good for learning, just getting up and zooming around.

Everything you’ve ever needed to learn about flying virtual helicopters exists in the heli-simmer communities and Youtube. At least until an in-sim flight lesson is added

We definitely need helicopter training since we already have glider, piston and jet training and i might add as well as multi prop, turboprop training as well.

Old post, understand. But I own the 145, I’m also a real fixed wing pilot, and I can’t fly these helos. And a year after your post, there STILL isn’t anything even close to help utilities for these helos. So, there’s that…

Yeah, same here. I’m also a fixed wing pilot with a multi-engine commercial instrument rating and I still can’t fly the things!! However, by setting one the control setting to EASY when I am trying to fly a helo, I can normally control it enough that I no longer crash within a matter of seconds. I’m not ready for helo missions, but at least I can keep in the air for a while and normally return to earth in one piece, albeit not always where I was trying to land. Eventually I’ll get it, but it’s taking a lot longer than I expected, but that just tells you how good military and civilian helo pilots are compared to the rest of us! Hang in there and just keep trying.

Many years ago (FSX or FS9) there used to be a hovercontrol.com site where H/C afficionados gathered and some helped me train in the 207.
Unfortunately it closed some years ago, they used to fly around Missoula and 4S2.
It might be nice to recreate this.

@Mobias7 thank you for your reply.

On many ocassions, FlyInside has hosted large multiplayer flyin-ins/outs that included training for helicopters. We’ve done Basic, Advanced and Emergency training in both the 47 and 206 helicopters.

Best way to find out when the next one is going to happen is join our Discord Server. Feel free to ask, sometimes a 1:1 flight can be arranged if I have some time available using JoinFS or Yourcontrols.
