Help Choosing a 4K Display

I concur!

I’m fortunate that in CA, where I love to fly regularly, the skies are CAVOK so often that nighttime flying is magnificent.

I bought this monitor some months ago based on Vibstronium’s recommendation, and I’m extremely happy with it. 4K HDR1000 is a game-changer (compared to the 2K HDR10 monitor I’ve relegated to charts, SPAD, and other secondary.)

32" is a good size that works well with TOBII for my 36" viewing distance.. I also dislike Ultrawide or curved monitors.

1440p vs 4k

I found the following (reference below). I hope I didn’t break any laws here. See the 1st table in the article for a, hopefully, direct answer to your question. Good luck and thanks. --Redeye

Great article on best gaming monitors here

The Dell Alienware AW3225QF is an oled monitor definitely worth a look.

Thanks. I did see that earlier today prior to starting this thread.

That LG 32GS95UE-B does check all the boxes and looks like it’s highly recommended.

Yes. I’ve not pursued when it will be available. You didn’t happen to note that, did you?

This is a far more enjoyable experience with everyone’s help.

Looks like Amazon is out of stock on that one with no restock info. I did check a few of my other go to computer online stores and found it on sale at Newegg for $1,068.

LG 32" 144 Hz Nano IPS UHD Gaming Monitor

Hmm, New Egg shows it is out of stock for me.

(Unless that link opened a different model)

Yeah that is a different model. A search there for “32GS95UE-B” came up empty there.

Sheez… it was in stock when I checked a minute ago!! Honestly, there was an add to cart and a buy now button but showing out of stock now!

But they don’t even show a search result for “ 32GS95UE-B”.

My machine actually has a pair of 5K displays at 5120x2880, the LG Ultrafine 5K and the Apple Studio display 5K (in the normal glass version).

I know you said 4K, but if your machine has power to run them and can drive it through the USB-C, they are both amazingly sharp displays - 27". The Apple has much better audio on it and better build quality.

How much do you want to spend?

Not what Apple is asking, ha!

I know Tim Cook is really hurting over there, but I’m not feeling charitable.

The 32” is as much as a high end PC.

Well now Amazon is showing 2 in stock at $1,090!!

Amazon LG monitor price reduced

Ah, yes. I think there is confusion here. @Vibstronium linked two different displays. The part number 32GS95UE-B is for the OLED, which is what you mentioned above, but that and the New Egg one you linked are for the other LG display 32GQ950-B that was recommended.

Oh, ok sorry about that. I think either would work for you I guess it’s a matter if you think the higher price is worth it for the oled model.

Hi @NixonRedgrave

I can’t give monitor recommendations here, as I went with the TV option, but before I purchased my 55" HiSense, I tracked the price on a number of sites, and noticed there were dramatic price swings on every site. Sometimes the price would double for a few days, then drop down again. Some days it was marked as “Out of Stock” but reappeared a few days later (usually at a higher price). I used the price trend on rtings, and waited for the price to drop to the lowest value they recorded for the previous year. The LG 32GQ950-B may be over $1,000 now, but I’m sure it will drop to $800 again. It may go lower than that after the 2024 models come out (whenever that may be). Patience helps here!

The Rtings review does provide the nits (a.k.a cd/m2). Scroll down to the HDR brightness section. The Sustained 100% Window @ 615 cd/m2 is a bit better than my TV @ 610 cd/m2, and my picture quality is really good with HDR enabled.

I don’t think so. I’m currently running at 120 Hz. I could run at 144 Hz but see no reason to do so. The 160 Hz the LG 32GQ950-B provides should be ample.

I just bought the Dell Alienware AW3225QF.

Looks like I can expect it to be delivered on the 7th. I’ll report back what I think.

Thanks to you all for your input!

I am sure you are going to be extremely happy with your choice.

My wallet sure won’t, hahahaha!
