After allowing the sim to run for a few hours yesterday, I experienced this issue that I thought was the VRAM bug that is reported elsewhere. Then when doing some testing I noted the same rhythmic stutter on my somewhat anemic 2018 gaming laptop, as well. Once this issue starts it does not cease.
In both cases I’ve had the sim running for a few hours. I am often not even flying, and the sim is often static on the world map or paused in flight or paused when on the ground.
The detailed specs of my two PCs are in my profile, but the basics are my sim-rig PC is 7800X3D/RX7900 XTX/64GB and my laptop is i7-8750H/1060 Max Q/32GB.
Just now, when the issue occurred again on my sim-rig PC, I did a little looking via the FPS window in Dev Mode and this is what I see:
I see this in Task Manager for GPU:
I see this in HWiNFO for GPU:
The “GPU Memory Usage” is defined in HWiNFO as “Total GPU Memory in use.”, which is confusing as that doesn’t correlate with Task Manager or the in-sim FPS window. I’ve noted that quitting the sim doesn’t reduce “GPU Memory Usage” as much as I would have thought:
The only way to bring that number down to something reasonable, even with the sim not running, is to reboot and my PC hangs during the reboot process necessitating a forced shutdown:
I did not see this issue until after the 10 December patch.
Can anyone shed some insight here?
