I have created an accurate version of 8B1 airport. Can someone help me get it into the sim. I used blender.
Moved to User Support Hub > SDK that is more appropriate based on the request.
Ah, Hawthorne-Feather… it’s so sad all the major flight schools in the northeast have gone out of business. I suppose it makes some sense given meteorological considerations, and, well, in the case of Hawthorne-Feather being in the middle of pretty much nowhere, but… still… it was a nice heyday back in the day.
Be that as it may, you’ve made an awfully vague request. What do you mean you made an “accurate version” of the airport… what do you mean “help getting it into the sim”?
Have you used the scenery editor to create the package and made the airport yet?
Do all of your objects have their proper LOD’s?
Have you installed the MSFS2024 Blender tool into Blender? Do all of the materials check out properly as valid? A lot of people make define materials in Blender that won’t work for MSFS.
Have you visited YouTube to learn how to do all of these things?
I wouldn’t mind offering some help if I can make the time. I’m somewhat adept at creating airports for MSFS 2020, and once-upon-a-time I knew how to import Blender objects into the sim for 2020. But I have not yet successfully finished a 2024 airport, and so far I’ve been quite flumoxed by even just trying to remove airport flattens. You’d think unchecking the box for that would do that… but, noooo… sigh. In any event, I don’t know how much help I could actually give.
And be that as it may, I don’t understand exactly what you’ve done and what you’re asking for. Some pictures would help.
I am 65 years old. I made an accurate version of the airport 8B1. It looks just like the airport. It isn’t just the generic box currently in the sim. Highly accurate duplication of the airport. That isn’t vague at all. I did add the microsoft blender tool. However, it is all confusing blah blah. I don’t understand the process, and have failed misurably at attempting to “Get the airport in the sim.” I just want to fly the sim without having to program in a format that I just don’t understand. I need help getting the airport into the sim.
Sorry, Jim, but, “It looks just like the airport” can mean anything. Are you saying you downloaded the DEM and created the grounds for the airport, you created a blender model of the runway and the tarmac and all the lighting and put lines down on the runway just like the real thing and so on and so on? Or that you created a few hangars and are ready to bring them into the sim?
I’m 63 years old, btw, since that seems to be important information, and I learned how to create airports for MSFS 2020. But, as I said, I haven’t put the time in to learn how to do it for 2024 so I can’t help with that. But I will eventually when I get some time (I still work more than full time).
BTW, if you can learn how to use Blender, you can certainly learn how to create airports in MSFS. I’ve been using 3D modeling software since the late '80’s, and Blender is hard! lol
Be that as it may, you’re going to have to be more specific about what help you want. It may seem obvious to you, but, there’s a lot to putting together an airport in the sim, and a lot of different ways of doing it. So, as I said, a picture of what you’ve got would be a great help in understanding what you’re trying to do so we can help you get it done.
Also, 2020 airports are much easier to create, and do work in a fashion in 2024. You could release for 2020 and see if it works in 2024, if you have access to 2020. I just released a version of KAFN Silver Ranch Jaffrey Airport in 2020, and I think it came out ok (I’m not there yet with modeling in Blender so I used library hangars). I tried bringing it into 2024, but I’m flumoxed by the terraforming in 2024. There’s a flatten on the airport I can’t figure out how to turn off, even though I turned it off in the airport options.
I do have some experience bringing things in from Blender, but that was a couple of years ago and I have to learn it again. But it wasn’t all that hard.
So if Hawthorne-Feather is on relatively flat ground, it shouldn’t be an issue to use a 2020 version there until you upgrade your skills to 2024 level. A bunch of my other airports work ok in 2024 (buildings popping through seems to be the main issue, and I can probably fix that by adding a couple of exclusion rectangles to the 2020 version).
Main point being, I’m willing to help create the airport in 2020 and bring your hangars and buildings in if that’s what you’re saying you have. But I really need to understand what you mean by saying “I created the whole airport”. I’m no expert at replacing grounds with 3D models if that’s what you mean.
I am familiar with Blender. I used it to design the new wing the American Heritage museum wants to build on their site for Rob Collings. I’m just not an expert in texturing or bringing models into MSFS. But I can and have done it.
Here’s the MSFS 2020 airport I created for flying around the AHM. Unfortunately, you have to turn off photogrammetry because it screws up the required terraforming, if I use Asobo’s terraforming tools. Unfortunately, if your airport falls in a photogrammetry area, the terraforming tools don’t work, you can’t turn off photogrammetry in an area. At least, they haven’t given us the tools to do it anyway.
I stopped working on detailing the airport when they asked me to design the new wing. I’m hoping to build it all up in full detail someday so you can use the runway and walk around the museum.
