I initially installed the game on my D: drive, a traditional hard drive. My C: drive is an SSD, but only has 256G of capacity. I felt the game was running slowly so I bought a 1 Tb SSD that I named M:, and copied the files and directories from D: to M:. Also, subsequent updates have been assigned to M:/MSFS.
Two problems have arisen. First, the Bush navlog comes up blank every time so I have no idea where to go. 2nd, in the content manager, every file, except the core file, says it cannot be updated until I get a new version, but I did update them last week, and if I click on my user name I am showing version 1.10.11.0.
I suspect i need to start fresh, but don’t know how to proceed. Thoughts?
I cant remember how I did it, but the proper way to move the sim to a SSD in windows is to look at your list of apps and then select move (maybe a menu option when you right click). You can then select your ssd and after a period of time your app will be moved to the ssd (including all the hidden files). If you manually just move files around there is a high degree of change that it will not work, The file structure of this game is bonkers
Once you start moving program files around, you are almost certain to get into issues.
Hidden files, registry entries … etc.
You now have 2 choice:
(1) Continue messing with it, move files, trying to fix issues, that are way more complex than you could imagine, waste a lot of time, get really frustrated with it, and then, finally admit defeat, uninstall MSFS … clean up, and re-install where you want it - and move on, trouble free … or
(2) Do it now — uninstall MSFS … clean up, and re-install where you want it - and move on, trouble free …
It may literary take you for ever to sort it out as it is now, or you can spend a few minutes, uninstalling it… cleaning up, and starting the download … go to bed, and the next morning all your moving to the new drive issues will be history.
In
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\UserCfg.opt
theres an entry called “InstalledPackagesPath” at the very bottom. Check that and see if its set to the place that you moved the files to, and not where they originally were. It might have been updated when you set the Sim to update to your new location, but it doesn’t hurt to check before you do a full reinstall.
EDIT: If you have the windows store version of MSFS, use the path that @camechi kindly posted.
