I’m starting to think of my next round of upgrades and trying to decide on the case. I built this one for someone else the other day, which was in a Hyte Y70 Touch case.
It was a pleasure to build in and looks fantastic, which has me considering it. The sticking point is the screen on the diagonal corner. I’m not sure if I want to go that route or with a regular Y70 with a glass diagonal.
My question to the forum is for anyone that may have thoughts on the use of the screen. Most people seem to use it for performance monitoring, or just wallpapering to fit an aesthetic. I’m curious if there may be any sim specific uses for something like it. It’s a touch screen, which allows for direct interactions with it, but I’ve only used a single monitor so far (with occasional VR).
Being that is a significant price increase over the regular Y70, I want to make sure it’s not a waste of money. I know there’s the argument of if I’m not sure, just get the regular one (which would look great as well) but I’m at that point where I don’t know what I don’t know. Lol
It’s pretty.
I prefer a case like my Corsair 5000X, which has straight airflow from front to back. It also has a side intake with a duct that routes low pressure air over the motherboard, helping with RAM and VRM cooling, but doesn’t interfere with the main front-to-back airflow. The side opening could be used for an intake or exhaust radiator for custom cooling (by removing the duct) but my custom loop exhausts out the top.
I was generally the same way regarding having a flow through design. I currently have a Be Quiet 500FX and for the longest time planned to upgrade to the Fractal Torrent. I didn’t really like the dual chamber designs even after building in a Montech Sky Two. Building in that Y70 made me rethink just how much cooling I really needed vs getting something stylish. I’m currently running relatively cool parts, and part of the case upgrade will be kitting it with an AIO and fans similar to the pic above. Cooling shouldn’t be a concern for me.
I’m also debating one of the Lian Li O11 cases if I decide that screen isn’t really worth it. That’ll be a secondary decision, though, depending on the question at hand.
