Help please with Vr in virtual desktop

Anyone know of a video or guide on how to get msfs2020 to work wirelessly with virtual desktop? There are plenty of guides with the steam version but I need help with the non-steam version of the sim. I keep getting “no headset detected” with I try and switch to VR. What am I missing lol?

Hi, same problem here. Would love to know if there is a fix to this problem, many thanks.

So far I’ve been told we have to follow the Steam vr method even though we have a non steam vr version of the sim. The sim will run through steam vr I guess. Haven’t seen a video on it. So ■■■■ confusing. I don’t want to mess up my current setup but flying untethered would be awesome. I’m going to try it in a bit.

I am successfully using the Gamepass version of FS2020 along with VR Desktop and an Oculus Quest 2.

Even though you don’t have the Steam version of FS2020, it still uses Steam VR. So ensure you download Steam and Steam VR.

Start Steam VR. Start VR Desktop. Start FS2020. Hit CTRL-Tab when you’re ready to switch to VR mode. That’s it!

Same here I’m using gamepass version.

First start virtual desktop on your PC and your headset. Confirm you can see your desktop in your headset.
Start SteamVR in your PC. Your headset may now show the steam virtual room.
Now start MSFS.
Ctrl+Tab to switch to VR.
If it just shows a 2D stereo image then take left controller hit oculus menu button to see VD menu and click “Enter VR”

If that doesn’t work then download on Steam a demo game that can be played in VR and confirm that you can run Steam games in VR over VD.

Thank you gordo5568. It works now after editing my registry “{drive}:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\steamxr_win64.json” I flew around for a bit and I swear I have better results than with the oculus link cable. Problem Solved.

Thanks man. Got it to work after editing my registry. Good day!

make sure you edit your registry after downloading steam vr. {drive}:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\steamxr_win64.json

There is an easier way than editing the registry:

Thanks. Ill try that!

Thank you all for helping out! You are great! As I am too chicken to work around in the registry, I used the tip from ImXLXL and that worked out just perfect. :slightly_smiling_face: All the best and stay safe.

Hmm. I dont see the developer option tab under startup/shutdown in the example on the link? What am I missing lol?

Make sure your headset is connected.
