Help reinstalling msfs after win10 reset/reinstall
I go to ms store, find msfs, it says I already own it, then I click install.
I then get the option to choose which drive to install it, click install then nothing happens. It just sits there.
I tried resetting MS store cache. No improvement.
I try the three dots → install on my devices, it tells me I dont have any applicable device linked to my microsoft account. To install, sign in on a device with your microsoft account.
So I go to ms store, and see I am already signed in, try to install again but it never does. I log out, then sign in again, still no install.
Any clues ?

I apperciate your input. There is no microsoft flight simulator folder in user/app datas/roaming.
When I run the install/uninstall diagnostics there is no listing for microsoft flight simulator.
CCleaner also cannot see any microsoft flight sim installed. Nothing in the ms store will work to reinstall it.

yes i did that, unhidden, no ms flightsim folder there.

its an app it will be there, go to c: drive , users , the name of the main directory ie your machine name ,
app data , roaming , Microsoft Flight Simulator

If it is not showing that might mean you have not had a full install and this could be one of many different issues but normally the most common cause is corrupt registry keys, then go to the part cleaning registry and unlinking and relinking making sure to clean the registry keys

C:/users/myname/appdata/roaming/microsoft/
no flight sim. It was uninstalled earlier via ccleaner, but ms store will not reinstall it.
I still have all the folders & files in my coomunity folder and the official folder. They live on another drive.

Well, I had to re-install Win10 too last month and I had no trouble re-installing MSFS after that.

The little story is as follow: I got a new 2Tb Gen 4 Nvme SSD drive (as my previous 1Tb drive was getting full). Sadly I messed-up the cloning of my old drive onto the new one. I had to re-install everything from scratch. When I got to MSFS, I started with updating at the MS Store.
Then launched the sim and started updating 121Gb … It took me 2 days for that part.
Then went to my Content Manager and started updating the addons … that took me another 3 days.
All in all, I recovered everything as it was before … it just took a very long time.

Glad you finally resolved it. My issue is that MS store does nto seem to actually download anything when I click the button

download the microsoft tool and run that as it works with this program uninstalling corrupted files, it sounds like the registry keys are still there linked to previous install and if that is the case you will not be able to run the program until they are removed, either way you will need to re-run install as it will need to be re-registered

MS store is probably still registered to your previous installation of windows 10

When I download and run the install/uninstall diagnostics there is no listing for microsoft flight simulator. Not for install or uninstall

so is there a way in ms store to unlink it from the old win10 install?

OK that’s a good sign, ok cache might be the other issue causing the problems, this one is not so easy to fix. there is a nother tool that I use sometimes which you can use on free trial on stubborn programs like MSFS or Autocad products, this has a better algorithm for removing registry keys and programs
RevoUninstaller | Remove programs easily with Revo Uninstaller

The sim files location on the drive should be as follow:
C:/Users/myname/AppData/Local/Packages/Microsoft.FlightSimulator_xxyouruniqueidxx
I hope this helps.

Yep. Nothing there. No microsoft flight simulator folder in there :frowning:

You have to go to wherever your credit details are linked normally these days it is tired to the MS outlook account for your email, the same as MS Office. it is tired to one account normally and if you go to settings and account details you will see the payment options etc. Unfortunately the whole lot has to be done i.e. it is not intuitive process meaning that you start with the MS outlook and work your way back checking to make sure everything is linked to the current installation of windows.

Just in case make sure your using the outlook account that MSFS was originally installed and registered on.

I forgot that MS store puts it under a sub folder unlike the steam version, thanks [fascat71]

The other items could be that you might need to run all the windows 10 updates, if there are any outstanding on the reinstall as there were so fixes a while back for XBOX, store etc

You probably also need the XBox App for Win10 (in case you haven’t installed that already)
MSFS will show in the XBox App.
