Help Setup New 7950X3D+RTX 4090+G2 Combo

I got a good deal on a maxed-out PC build that I’m in the process of setting up the sim from scratch. I’ve been out of simming since the end of the summer. My original rig is a 5800X/RTX 3080ti from early2022.

Looking for opinions on the nvidia control panel and other settings. I was reading the 7950X3D should be able to handle a LOD of 400, not sure if that’s for 2D or VR.

Currently working on all the downloads and software config.

  • Gigabyte x670 aorus elite ax
  • Gigabyte RTX 4090 OC
  • Ryzen 9 7950X3D
  • 64 (2x32) GB DDR5 6000 - CL30
  • Two, 2TB Samsung 990 Pros
  • Corsair AIO 360

Got it for a $1.5K discount!

It is not going to handle an LOD of 400 in either and maintain good framerate. It will at 200 with the remaining display settings on Ultra in 2D. Display resolution will also play into the mix.

I think LOD 200 is about what I used on the old system. I was happy enough with that.

Reply you will have a night and day difference with your new Rig. I am running a 7950X3D with a 4090. The X3D series coupled with the 4090 is a game changer.

I did a little testing last night and yeah, I was astounded by how smooth it felt. So much in fact, that I felt like I could fly better given the faster response to visual feedback. t’s nice to be able to look sideways.

I was also able to see more visual details from outside in a way I had not noticed before. I think I was adverting my eyes by habit to not look at choppy stuff.

Framerates were not crazy high. They were roughly 45-90fps. I’d hit 90 if I wasn’t looking outside. But there was a smoothness that I hadn’t experienced before, even at somewhat of a similar frame rate. Thid was without any major tuning except some OpenXR toolkit (FSR, TAA @100%).

I briefly tried MR locked at 45 and for the first time I was able to use it! Although I have to put up with some of the G2’s wobbly motion sensitivity to use it. This was just in Open XR and it seemed buggy to switch in/out.

It’s kind of crazy you can have one of the fastest consumer builds possible and still struggle with MSFS in VR! If we could only have Ultra everything at 90fps in VR.

For now, I’m basically on TAA with a LOD of 200 and everything to Ultra. I set a frame limit of 60.

I tried DLSS and that still looks bad for little gain. I also backed out of MR as it still has a few weird quirks. But it is kinda nice in some situations. Also, the G2 really needs the predictive motion turned way down and that doesn’t play well with MR. I get sick feeling from how shaky the G2 is without that setting adjusted.

I haven’t tried any scaling yet. But it might be worth adjusting a few things down from Ultra.

I’m open to suggestions. But I don’t think DLSS or motion reprojection are for me.

I think I have changed my mind on DLSS. I turned on DX12, set the render resolution to 3700x3626 and enabled DLSS. All settings are maxed out with a LOD of 120. I feel like I could tweak some more.

The glass screens are a little blurrier but not terrible like they used to be. But OMG, so smooth! I’m getting a sold 60 FPS (which I had capped in the control panel).

Only downside is the sim seems to lock up when exiting to the main menu after a flight.
